11.06.2015 - ADAC Rallye Deutschland

Exciting new features at the ADAC Rallye Deutschland

  • Rally: more special stages and new challenges
  • Support events: New FIA RGT Cup premieres in Germany
  • Service Park: optimised layout and access for a better fan experience

Munich/Trier, 11 June 2015 – Rally racing thrives on variety. No other WRC event is likely to fit the bill better than the ADAC Rallye Deutschland. The German event in the FIA World Rally Championship (WRC) has always presented the world elite with a good mix of sporting challenges. But the principle of variety is not something strictly limited to rallying itself. It also applies to the schedule: The ADAC Rallye Deutschland is being consistently developed from year to year. The teams and fans are in for a few novelties in 2015.

More Special Stages, more mileage, more action

A look at the number of Special Stages (SS) reveals the first change from 2014: A total of 21 Special Stages against the clock – three more than in 2014 – will be waiting for World Champion Sébastien Ogier, 2014 winner Thierry Neuville, Jari-Matti Latvala, and the other WRC drivers. With a total of some 374 kilometres to cover, this year’s rally is approx. 48 kilometres longer than the year before.

Five Special Stages on Panzerplatte

A highlight among the innovations is the chronology of events on the Baumholder military range on Saturday (22 August): Successfully introduced last year, the Sprint format on Arena Panzerplatte will feature as a triple pack for the first time in 2015. The teams will complete the 2.87km circuit twice in a row in the morning and return for another Sprint in the afternoon. Even the supreme test itself will offer more action: The Panzerplatte Lang SS (extended Panzerplatte) will be run over a distance of 45.61km this year – some three kilometres more than last. The new Panzerplatte itinerary is a “best of” from previous years. The extended Panzerplatte will be run twice, in the morning and again in the afternoon, bringing the number of Special Stages on Panzerplatte to five.

A comeback for two Special Stages

Two more SS are new this year, Mittelmosel and Bosenberg. The Mittelmosel SS was on the ADAC Rallye Deutschland itinerary for the last time in 2013. It is back this year with a modified itinerary, taking the teams on a spectacular 13.67km chase through the vineyards on Friday (21 August). On Saturday (22 August), the rally returns to the Bosenberg SS after a three-year hiatus. A slightly modified itinerary will take the drivers on 17.13km along the prominent landmark near the town of St. Wendel.

Power Stage in the vineyards

The final day (23 August) of the ADAC Rallye Deutschland also comes with a change: This year, the second leg of the Dhrontal Special Stage will be driven as a Power Stage instead of the Grafschaft SS, which was rescheduled for Saturday. Which means: to conclude the rally, the drivers can fight for valuable extra points in the WRC standings. To function as a Power Stage, the spectacular vineyard SS was concentrated to 14.08km. Its emblematic sections, such as the famous “Galeria Dhron” are still part of the itinerary, making this leg the essential Moselle test again in 2015.

Other modifications to the itinerary

A number of other modifications to the itinerary will add their dram of variety to the 2015 rally. For instance, the Sauertal SS (Friday, 21 August) will be started in the opposite direction compared with 2014. On the same day’s schedule, the Moselland SS has a modified start section and the Stein & Wein SS on Sunday (23 August) has changed middle and finish sections. Both Special Stages are some 2km longer than last year. The changes to the itinerary also bring a number of new spectator points offering yet unseen perspectives.

New FIA RGT Cup and a few more attractions among the support events

The 2015 ADAC Rallye Deutschland has added variety in the support events as well. Numerous promotions and services for the fans are being prepared and will be presented in the weeks running up to the rally. They can count on a new top act already: The newly launched FIA RGT Cup will be held as a support event at the ADAC Rallye Deutschland. The German FIA WRC rally is one of just two WRC events hosting the new Cup, which is an absolute highlight for the fans of the increasingly popular GT rally cars. Furthermore and in addition to the FIA WRC, FIA WRC2 and FIA WRC3, the 2015 rally will also feature the cars of the ADAC Opel Rally Cup.

Optimised layout and access in the Service Park Trier

A few new touches at the ADAC Rallye Deutschland concern the Service Park on the Trier fairgrounds, still the hub of the event. ADAC will optimise the layout of the various areas and walks this year for even more spectator friendliness. For instance, the regrouping of the vehicles will take place in a new spot. For the fans, the Service Park is worth a visit every day of the event: Here, they are close to the action at all times and have the opportunity to collect autographs and watch the teams at work. The Service Park is also a popular contact and meeting point, with the shops, info points, food and refreshments, promotional stands of the manufacturers and sponsoring partners (Red Bull, VW etc.), sanitary facilities, as well as a medical station and other services.
