17.08.2015 - ADAC Formel 4

Tales from the Nürburgring paddock

  • Ralf Schumacher commentates races live for SPORT1
  • DTM stars Maximilian Götz and Bruno Spengler attend ADAC Formula 4
  • Marvin Dienst retakes championship lead

Nürburgring. The ADAC Formula 4 lined up for the fifth race weekend of the year at
the Nürburgring (August 14th-16th, 2015). Spectators were treated to three
exciting races in the ADAC High-Speed Academy at the weekend during this first
fixture after the summer break. TV partner SPORT1 broadcast the races live on
free-to-air TV.

Zimmermann meets Schumacher: The ADAC invited members of the press to
a media event at Ralf Schumacher’s restaurant in Bergheim on Thursday evening in
the run-up to the ADAC GT Masters and the ADAC Formula 4 at the Nürburgring.
ADAC Sports Foundation protégé Tim Zimmermann (18, GER, Neuhauser Racing)
represented the ADAC Formula 4 and took questions from the journalists present.
Ralf Schumacher, who joined the ADAC Sports Foundation Board of Trustees this
year, gave an account of his involvement in the promotion of young talent.

Schumacher at the microphone: Ralf Schumacher was at the Nürburgring to
watch the ADAC Formula 4 races on the Saturday. The ex-Formula 1 and DTM driver
commentated the first race live for TV partner SPORT1 along with Patrick Simon.
Schumacher presented the trophies on the podium after the second race held on
Saturday afternoon.

Spengler pays a visit: DTM driver Bruno Spengler was invited as a guest to the
ADAC Formula 4 at the Nürburgring. While there, the 2012 DTM champion called
on HTP Junior Team. Spengler and ADAC Sports President Hermann Tomczyk
presented the trophies on the podium after the first race on Saturday.

Support for Mick: Mick Schumacher (16, GER, Van Amersfoort Racing) was well
supported at the Nürburgring. Mother Corinna and his sister, Gina Maria, were at
the track to watch the newcomer to formula racing. Before coming to the circuit,
Mick’s sister had been at the European riding championship in nearby Aachen. The
M. Schumacher Fan Club Kerpen e.V. made the trip from the town to see Mick
Schumacher score points in all three races in a single weekend for the first time.
He secured his best result since his victory in the season opener at Oschersleben by
placing sixth in Saturday’s second race.

Götz presents trophies: Maximilian Götz, another DTM driver, was at the track
to watch the races of the ADAC High-Speed Academy. Götz is one of three
newcomers lining up this year in the touring car series. On Sunday, he presented
the trophies on the podium for best-placed rookie and third place to young British
driver, Lando Norris (15, GBR, kfzteile24 Mücke Motorsport).

Keenly contested title battle: Marvin Dienst (18, GER, HTP Junior Team)
started out after the summer break as he had begun the season, with a double
victory. The HTP Junior Team youngster retook the championship lead at the
Nürburgring. Dienst was the big winner in the Eifel with two wins plus another
podium. Prior to the weekend, he was placed third in the championship with a
deficit of 34 points on Joel Eriksson (17, SWE, Motopark), who has led until now.
After the 15th race of the season, Dienst leads the overall standings with 194
points to Eriksson’s 184.

Champion comes to call: Another familiar face from an ADAC junior formula
racing series put in an appearance in the paddock at the weekend. Mikkel Jensen,
the last champion in the history of the Formel ADAC, visited his former team,
Neuhauser Racing. The Danish driver moved up to contest the FIA Formula 3
European Championship after his 2014 title win in the Formel ADAC, the
predecessor series to ADAC Formula 4. Jensen is currently sixth-best of all the
drivers promoted to the Formula 3 series.
