Abarth to stay on as engine partner to ADAC Formula 4

  • ADAC Formula 4 will use Abarth engines for the next two years
  • Abarth as exclusive supplier to the ADAC Formula 4 series since 2015

Munich: ADAC Formula 4 will continue to use Abarth engines for the next two years. Abarth will stay on as exclusive engine supplier to the ADAC High-Speed Academy until 2019. Ever since the inception of ADAC Formula 4 in 2015, the racing series for junior drivers has been using the turbo engines from Italy. All cars competing in the ADAC Formula 4 races are fitted with a series-specific Abarth four-cylinder 1.4-litre turbo engine delivering 160 horsepower. This extension to the partnership between Abarth and ADAC means that the series will continue to use not only Abarth engines but also chassis supplied by Tatuus of Italy for the next two years.

“The Abarth-ADAC partnership proved perfect from the beginning to foster the growth of young drivers and reassert Abarth technology in this challenging and competitive environment” said Mario Alvisi, Head of Abarth Operation. “We want the motorsport champions of future to ‘feel the sting’ of the Scorpion from the very start of their career”.

“We are very pleased that Abarth is just as committed to the promotion of upcoming talent as we are and that they will continue to supply engines to ADAC Formula 4,” said ADAC Director of Motorsport and Classic Motoring Thomas Voss. “By extending this partnership, we have a proven engineering package to work with over the next two years.”

The ADAC Formula 4 series was inaugurated in 2015 and continues a successful tradition stretching back more than 25 years of bringing on talented young drivers. Formula 1 world champions Sebastian Vettel and Nico Rosberg plus two of the current crop of Formula 1 drivers, Nico Hülkenberg and Pascal Wehrlein, as well as DTM champion Marco Wittmann are among the talents that have emerged from the ADAC Formula series.
