Great interest in new ADAC Formula 4

More than 20 entries for debut season of new junior ADAC single-seater series already received.

Munich. There’s big interest in the new ADAC Formula 4 series in the run-up to the 2015 debut season. Over 20 entries had already been received by the end of November. Applicants still have until the middle of March, 2015, to enrol. Apart from well known teams from the previous Formel ADAC series, many newcomers will make for a challenging international field.

“Interest in ADAC Formula 4 has exceeded our expectations,” said ADAC Sport President Hermann Tomczyk. “We can already look forward to having a very attractive line-up in the first season of our newly established ADAC single-seater junior series. The way forward to a successful future for junior open-wheel motor racing in Germany is open.”

Lars Soutschka, ADAC Director Motorsport and Classic, is looking forward to the 2015 season: “Well established teams and ambitious newcomers will make a great mix, and I am certain that ADAC Formula 4 will also help bring on young talented juniors.”

Two of the well established teams from Formel ADAC – Mücke Motorsport and Motopark – have already decided to participate in ADAC Formula 4. The Berlin-based team and the Oschersleben team will each field four cars. JBR Motorsports & Engineering, who are also very familiar from Formel ADAC, will enter two single seater racing cars in 2015.

Two-time DTM champion Timo Scheider will join the line-up with his own specially formed open-wheel racing team, Team Scheider. ADAC Formula 4 has on board another team with a famous name, Jenzer Motorsport. In recent years, the Swiss outfit has brought on Formula 1 drivers such as Sergey Sirotkin and DTM drivers like Bruno Spengler. Jenzer Motorsport contested a number of series last season, including the Italian Formula 4 championship and the GP3 Series as support programme for Formula One.

Piro Sports are another experienced motor racing outfit who will be in the ADAC Formula 4 line-up. The team founded in 1998 by Erwin Piro can look back on success in one-make championships and most recently in the Formula Renault. Übersax, also from Switzerland, have registered a number of Formula 4 cars.

The ADAC Formula 4 racing cars will line up on the grid running Abarth turbo engines and chassis from Italian manufacturer Tatuus. Italian premium tyre manufacturer Pirelli, who are well-known from Formula 1, will provide tyres for the junior series. The first season of the ADAC Formula 4 gets under way in the etropolis Motorsport Arena Oschersleben on the weekend of April 24th - 26th, 2015. SPORT1+ pay-per-view TV channel will broadcast live pictures from all the race weekends.

The ADAC single-seater youth development programme has long been a springboard for the motor racing stars of tomorrow. In the past, Formula 1 drivers such as four-time world champion Sebastian Vettel, world championship runner-up Nico Rosberg, Nico Hülkenberg and Ralf Schumacher, and DTM stars including Martin Tomczyk, Pascal Wehrlein and Timo Glock all began their successful careers in ADAC open wheel series for juniors.
