A glimpse of the future: ADAC Formula 4 cars in demonstration
Slovakia Ring: With the launch of the Formula 4 series in Germany, the ADAC is ushering in a new era in single-seater racing. The entry-level series for budding young open-wheel racing drivers of the future replaces the Formel ADAC competition with effect from 2015. In the week leading up to the fifth round of the 2014 Formel ADAC campaign, the ADAC staged a demo drive for the new Formula 4 cars at the Slovakia Ring.
The demonstration on 7th August 2014 at the Slovakian track was an opportunity for the principals of teams currently contesting Formel ADAC to check out the two different Formula 4 chassis. On display were a Mygale single-seater and a Formula 4 car with Tatuus chassis. Both chassis comply with the high safety requirements imposed by the FIA. The drivers change gear with a paddle on the steering wheel, just like in Formula 1. The cars were driven by reigning Formel ADAC champion Alessio Picariello from Belgium and Neuhauser Racing team boss Hannes Neuhauser.
Mygale is a French company that has been actively involved in motorsport since 1989, manufacturing and supplying chassis for a variety of motor racing series. Mygale first showcased its newly designed Formula 4 chassis on a demonstration lap of Albert Park during the 2014 F1 Australian Grand Prix weekend.
Tatuus has been developing chassis for various racing series since 1980. Since the start of the 2014 season, the Italian manufacturer has been supplying its Type F.4 T 014 to teams in the Italian F.4 championship. Italy’s Formula 4 is the first racing series in the world to be contested under the Formula 4 regulations drawn up by the FIA.
The World Motor Sport Council of the FIA took the decision in 2013 to inaugurate a new category of formula racing for nationally-based series around the world.
