ADAC Formula 4 looks to future with Abarth turbo power
Munich. The 2015 season marks the dawn of a new era for single-seater junior motor racing in Germany, ushered in by the ADAC together with Abarth. In its role as exclusive engine partner, Abarth will equip all ADAC Formula 4 cars with units. This partnership will enable the well established Italian company to further expand the selective bringing on of young talent in motorsport that it first instigated in the sixties.
Nowadays, Abarth are known for their extremely powerful models in the Fiat range. The turbocharged four-cylinder engine used in the ADAC Formula 4 racing car is based on the standard Abarth 500 unit but is specially tuned for motor racing. The 1.4-liter 414 TF engine delivers 160 bhp with a maximum torque of 250 Nm. Top speed is around 210 km/h.
The Abarth racing marque was founded in 1949 by Carlo Abarth. The Austrian lived for motor racing. His name represents a great success story in the automotive sector, both as a racing driver and as a vehicle designer and manufacturer. The Abarth logo is the scorpion, taken from Scorpio, the sign of his birth month, November.
ADAC Formula 4 has generated enormous interest in the run-up to the 2015 debut season. So far, ten teams from Germany, Austria and Switzerland have confirmed that they will be taking part. More than 25 entries have been received with less than three months to go before the start of the season.
The ADAC Formula 4 vehicles will line up on the grid powered by Abarth turbo engines, running chassis developed by Italian manufacturer, Tatuus. Italian premium tyre manufacturer Pirelli, who are well-known from Formula 1, will provide tyres for the junior series. The first season of the ADAC Formula 4 gets under way on the weekend of 24th to 26th April 2015, in the etropolis Motorsport Arena Oschersleben. SPORT1+ will broadcast the high-speed ADAC races live.
For many years, the ADAC single-seater development programme for juniors has been a stepping stone for future motor racing stars. In the past, Formula 1 drivers such as four-time world champion Sebastian Vettel, Nico Hülkenberg, Nico Rosberg and Ralf Schumacher and DTM stars like Martin Tomczyk, Pascal Wehrlein and Timo Glock all started their successful careers in ADAC single-seater junior series.
