Hohenstein-Ernstthal. The ADAC Formula 4 lined up for the sixth race weekend of the year at the Sachsenring (August 28th-30th, 2015). More than 12,000 spectators came through the gates to watch the three races of the ADAC High-Speed Academy. TV partners SPORT1 and SPORT1+ broadcast the races live on TV.
Hat-trick dream: Marvin Dienst (18, DEU, HTP Junior Team) had set himself an ambitious goal for the Sachsenring fixture – three wins in one weekend. The championship leader ultimately just missed achieving the perfect result. After victories in the first two races, he placed second in the third round with a charge up the field from tenth place on the grid. Dienst called all the shots at the historic Sachsenring circuit with double-pole, two wins, three podiums and three fastest race laps. The HTP Junior Team youngster now has a 34-point lead in the championship on rival Joel Eriksson (17, SWE, Motopark).
Turbo double: Abarth turbo power times two at the Sachsenring. The Trofeo Abarth Selenia Europe was held at the weekend alongside ADAC Formula 4. The Abarth 695 Assetto Corse Evoluzione and the Abarth 500 Assetto Corse racing cars derive their power from a 1.4 T-Jet engine just like in the Formula 4 racing cars. The in-line four-cylinder unit in the Abarth 695 Assetto Corse Evoluzione produces 215 bhp, while the Abarth turbo engines used in the ADAC Formula 4 are good for 160 bhp.
Podium debut: Kim Luis Schramm (18, DEU, Neuhauser Racing) showed that a home race can provide an extra dose of motivation. The local driver from nearby Wolfsberg had his most successful race weekend in the ADAC Formula 4 at the Sachsenring. Cheered on by fans and family, the Neuhauser Racing driver secured his maiden podium on Sunday. He amassed more points than ever before at the weekend with P9, P4 and P3 finishes.
Way up high: In preparation for the ADAC GT Masters and the ADAC Formula 4 fixtures at the Sachsenring, the ADAC invited members of the press to a media dinner at the track in the ADAC Tower on Thursday evening. Championship leader Marvin Dienst took questions from journalists on the top floor while enjoying a fine view of the racetrack and paddock. Also among the guests were ADAC GT Masters star Albert von Thurn und Taxis, local driver Philip Geipel and title contender Luca Ludwig.
Highpoint home race: The race weekend at the Sachsenring was the highlight of the year for Toni Wolf (16, DEU, Toni Wolf). The 16-year-old lives just 40 kilometres away from the track and was contesting the three races on home turf. Many friends and the Wolf family were at the track to support the young talent from Schönbrunn. During the weekend, Wolf was a popular target for journalists, especially from the local media, who have been following the career of the formula racing rookie for years.
Guests from Australia: Andrew Papadopoulos, President of the Australian Motorsport Federation CAMS (Confederation of Australian Motorsport) had the longest journey to see the ADAC Formula 4 at the Sachsenring. Papadopoulos was accompanied by Michael Smith, General Manager of Motorsport. The two Australians were on a fact-finding mission and spoke with Lars Soutschka, Director of ADAC Motorsport about the ADAC GT Masters and the structure of German motor racing. They watched the ADAC Formula 4 in which fellow Australian Joey Mawson (19, AUS, Van Amersfoort Racing) is fighting for the title. Placed third in the championship, he won Sunday’s race and thus secured his third victory of the season.
ADAC Formula 4 meets DTM: From Sachsenring to Oschersleben. The ADAC Formula 4 will guest with the DTM in two weeks’ time at the Motorsport Arena Oschersleben (September 11th-13th, 2015). This will be the first time that the young talents have lined up under the DTM banner. It will be an especially busy weekend for Timo Scheider. The two-time DTM champion will look after his own Team Timo Scheider outfit in the ADAC Formula 4, while also contesting two races in the touring car series.
‘Like’: The new ADAC Formula 4 is also proving very popular on social media network sites. The official Facebook fan page broke the 4,000-fan barrier at the Sachsenring.
