Second half of the ADAC Formula 4 season begins at the Nürburgring

• Competition hots up with two race weekends in August
• Andrea Kimi Antonelli (Prema Racing) remains the one to chase
• Debut for McLaren Junior Ugo Ugochukwu (Prema Racing)

Munich. The summer break is over and the ADAC Formula 4 is returning to the racetrack. The fourth race weekend of the season in the ADAC academy of speed takes place from 5th to 7th August as part of the ADAC GT Masters at the Nürburgring. Having visited the Hockenheimring Baden-Württemberg for the second event of the season, the 180 HP Formula 4 cars are now heading to their second appearance in Germany in 2022. Andrea Kimi Antonelli (Prema Racing) travels to the Eifel as championship leader: the 15-year-old Italian can take another step towards the title on the former Formula 1 circuit. All races are broadcast free of charge on Motorsport.tv and adac.de/motorsport.

The motorsport stars of tomorrow will again be racing in front of the superb backdrop of the German GT Championship. After two races on foreign soil in Spa-Francorchamps (Belgium) and in Zandvoort (Netherlands), the second half of the season takes place solely in Germany. The 3,629-kilometre sprint version of the Nürburgring represents the start of a tense August. The talented young drivers have two race weekends within two weeks: from 19th to 21st August, the ADAC Formula 4 will be part of the ADAC GT Masters at the Family & Friends Festival at the Lausitzring.

Antonelli is the championship leader with seven wins in nine races so far this season. The Mercedes Junior currently has a 50-point lead over his closest challenger and team-mate Rafael Camara (17/BRA). Conrad Laursen (16/Prema Racing) moved up to third place after securing his first win of the season on the current Formula 1 circuit in Zandvoort. Taylor Barnard (18/GBR) is within striking distance of the podium at the halfway point: the PHM Racing driver is just seven points away from Denmark’s Laursen. The best rookie in the ADAC youth series is Camara, ahead of Rasmus Joutsimies (19/FIN/Jenzer Motorsport). The Italian team Prema Racing tops the team standings with 378 points. PHM Racing, the racing team from Berlin led by Paul Müller, is in second position.

Charlie Wurz (Prema Racing), son of the former Formula 1 driver Alex Wurz, provides some Formula 1 flair. The 17-year-old Austrian enjoyed his best weekend thus far in Zandvoort, finishing second and third to reach the podium. It is the second race weekend in the ADAC Formula 4 for German driver Valentin Kluss (15/Bad Mergentheim/ PHM Racing). The driver supported by the ADAC Stiftung Sport made his debut at the dune circuit in Zandvoort, scoring points at the first attempt. Jonas Ried is the second German driver for PHM Racing and the 17-year-old from Ehingen is in the top ten of the drivers’ standings. Ugo Ugochukwu (USA) celebrates his debut for Prema Racing at the legendary circuit in the Eifel. At 15 years of age, the McLaren Junior is one of the youngest drivers in the field.

In addition to two free practice sessions (08:30 and 12:45), Friday also features qualifying at 17:25 as drivers battle for the best grid spots in the first two races. Saturday’s race in the ADAC Formula 4 begins at 11:35. Two races will take place on Sunday, starting at 09:55 and 17:05. The reverse grid rule will be in effect, meaning that the best eight drivers will start the third race in reverse order.
