ADAC Formula 4: Mawson on course to become 'half-time champion' with win in second race at Oschersleben

• Fourth win of season for the Van Amersfoort driver in the Motorsport Arena
• Mick Schumacher and Mike David Ortmann complete the podium

Oschersleben: After winning the first race on Saturday, Joey Mawson (20, Australia, Van Amersfoort) also won the second round of the ADAC Formula 4 in the Motorsport Arena Oschersleben with a lead of 0.9 seconds on Mick Schumacher (17, Germany, Prema Powerteam) and so is well on course to take the title of 'half-time champion'. Starting from pole position, the Australian secured a start/finish victory. "It's a mega win, I couldn't be happier," said Mawson after his fourth victory of the season at Oschersleben: "But it was a tough race, because Mick Schumacher really got into his stride around the half-way mark. I had to take some action, and quick, to ensure that the gap didn't get any smaller." In the championship standings, Mawson is 20 points clear of second-placed Schumacher (182 points) ahead of this afternoon's twelfth round of the season (live on SPORT1 at 17.00).

Thomas Preining (17, Austria, Lechner Racing) crossed the finish line in third place. However, the Austrian was disqualified after it was found in a subsequent inspection that the amount of fuel remaining in his tank was less than the regulations stipulated. This bumped ADAC Sports Foundation protégé Mike David Ortmann (16, Germany, ADAC Berlin-Brandenburg e.V.) up into P3. Ortmann's team-mate Lirim Zendeli (16, Germany, ADAC Berlin-Brandenburg e.V.) finished as best rookie in fifth place behind Simo Laaksonen (17, Finland, Motopark).

Third race will decide who is 'half-time champion'

Mawson will line up in tenth place on the grid not far behind Schumacher, who will be in grid position eight for the third round of this Oschersleben race weekend. The result of the first race decides the positions for the third race. The Top Ten start in reverse order. Kim-Luis Schramm (18, Germany, US Racing) will be in pole position in front of Leonard Hoogenboom (16, Netherlands, Van Amersfoort Racing) and Jonathan Aberdein (18, South Africa, Motopark).

Lirim Zendeli (Best rookie, ADAC Berlin-Brandenburg e.V.): "I'm pleased that we didn't have any safety car periods. The race went more or less the way I thought it would. I actually intended to be even further up front with the leaders but just couldn't get past. It's obviously great for the championship that I'm best rookie for the second time. I have to line up way down the field in the third race, though, because of engine problems in the first race."
