- 22 entries already received for inaugural season
- Huge interest from riders in Germany and other European countries
- More entries for new junior motorcycle series expected from home and abroad
Munich. The ADAC has attracted enormous interest from would-be participants in the new ADAC Northern Europe Cup (NEC) motorcycle racing series for juniors. 22 entrants had already enrolled for the inaugural season within the first six weeks of ADAC NEC’s launch. Riders interested in participating still have until the closing date on February 15th to sign up online at www.adac.de/moto3. Grand Prix and standard class Moto3 bikes will contest ten races during seven events in the ADAC Northern Europe Cup, competing mainly at Grand Prix circuits. The season will get under way on the weekend of April 8th-10th at Silverstone/Great Britain within the context of the British Superbike Championship (BSB).
Riders from Germany and from abroad have shown great interest so far. Young talents from Germany and also from Belgium, Denmark, Austria, Sweden, Switzerland, the Netherlands and the Czech Republic are among the 22 juniors already registered. The German riders who will line up in the new series in 2016 include the 2015 Moto3 standard class champion and the championship runner-up, Tim Georgi and Matthias Meggle, who are both members of the ADAC Sports Foundation program. The Intact GP racing team will also be joining the ADAC NEC with championship runner-up Meggle. Another world championship team, Kiefer Racing, will also be in the line-up with the two ADAC Sports Foundation protégés, Dirk Geiger and Toni Erhard, plus Leon and Kevin Orgis. The winner of the 2015 Yamaha R6 Cup, Manou Antweiler, will also contest the new cup series.
“We are really pleased with the enormous interest that the new series has generated. The large number of drivers already enrolled at this early stage confirms that our concept is right," said Dieter Porsch, ADAC Director of Motorcycle Sport and Motorcycle Coordination. "We are having interesting discussions with prospective riders from home and abroad, and we expect a strong field to tackle the first season of the ADAC Northern Europe Cup in early April at Silverstone.“
The ADAC Northern Europe Cup is sponsored by Honda, Intact Battery Power, Intact GP, Dainese, Liqui Moly and MRA.
