- Ten shared dates for ADAC Rallye Masters and DRM
- Foreign rally drivers will also be eligible to compete for the DRM title in 2016
- New category for two-wheel-drive rally cars
Munich. International participants, a new title and a new rally event – these are the key points that underpin the 2016 ADAC Rallye Masters and the German Rally Championship (DRM). The two top tiers in the German rally scene will come together for ten events next year and will produce exciting and spectacular sport with an improved package. The ADAC Opel Rallye Cup, the Citroën Racing Trophy and the new HJS R3 Trophy for the Toyota 86 CS-R3 will also appear in the line-up at certain rallies in 2016. The Citroën Racing Trophy will concentrate on Germany next season, lining up at six events. The HJS R3 Trophy will be contested at least five times within the context of the ADAC Rallye Masters/DRM. Two more races have yet to be announced.
The ADAC Rallye Masters and DRM season will again open in the Saarland next year. The season will kick off on March 4th-5th, 2016, with the ADAC Saarland-Pfalz Rallye based around St Wendel. The AvD Sachsen Rallye which takes place in the Zwickau region will feature on the calendar for the first time (May 20th-21st, 2016). The ADAC 3-Städte-Rallye (3-Cities Rally) around Kirchham in East Bavaria traditionally rounds off the season and the finale will be staged on the weekend of October 21st-22nd, 2016.
The rules and regulations that normally govern the two independent series have been retained, but certain details have been refined. A number of changes have been made, especially in the DRM. As from 2016, foreign competitors can also score points towards winning the German Rally Championship title. Apart from the championship title, there is now also a separate class for the best drivers of a two-wheel-drive vehicle in the RC3, RC4 and RC5 categories. The victor will be crowned ‘German Rally Championship 2016 – Winner, 2WD Class’.
“The German Rallye Championship and the ADAC Rallye Masters have continued to go from strength to strength this year,” said ADAC Sports President Hermann Tomczyk. “With the introduction of new features for 2016, we will be improving both series and making the field even more attractive by opening it up to international participants. Plus, we will have three outstanding one-make cups on the support programme, the ADAC Opel Rallye Cup, the Citroën Racing Trophy and the HJS R3 Trophy.”
“We are pleased to see the AvD Sachsen Rallye on the DRM/ADAC Rallye Masters calendar,” said ADAC Head of Motorsport Lars Soutschka. “This rally in the heart of a region full of motor racing enthusiasts puts the icing on the cake to what is already a very attractive schedule. Apart from a superb calendar of events and the new HJS R3 Trophy, we are giving competitors fresh incentive to enter with the introduction of the 2WD standings.”
120 to 160 kilometres of special stages will be completed on each rally weekend. Fans will be able to congregate at a central service area. The season is divided into two halves. A maximum of the four best results from each half of the season will be used to determine standings in the ADAC Rallye Masters and the DRM.
The regulations will be laid out in full at the start of December on the websites of the two championship series at: www.adac.de/drm and www.adac.de/rallye-masters.
