Championship fight hotting up: Formel ADAC returns to Slovakia Ring

  • Summer break over: Fifth Formel ADAC race weekend in Slovakia
  • Battle for title between Mikkel Jensen and Maximilian Günther enters next phase
  • First demo runs in new generation of Formula 4 racing cars

Slovakia Ring – Return from summer break at full throttle: Formel ADAC will contest the fifth
race weekend of the 2014 season at the Slovakia Ring. The ADAC High Speed Academy is
guesting for the second time in Slovakia after its premiere there last year. In 2013, the
championship battle came to an early close on one of Europe’s longest tracks, when Alessio
Picariello took the title from Maximilian Günther at the Slovakia Ring. Günther finished runnerup
in his first season.

Günther is again second in the championship as he travels to Slovakia, but Mikkel Jensen is his
main rival this time in the fight for the title. The Neuhauser Racing driver is on 183 points in the
overall standings and has a 27-point lead on Günther. Jensen: “I like going head-to-head with
other competitors and am enjoying this battle with Maximilian. Of course, I would prefer to have
a big lead but feel no added pressure as a result of the small margin.”

Score to settle with the Slovakia Ring

Günther has a score to settle with the Slovakia Ring. Last year, he was forced to retire from two
of the three races. It was Günther’s first and only Formel ADAC race weekend in which he failed
to secure a podium. The ADAC Sports Foundation protegé has an extra incentive to do well as he
tackles this third foreign leg of the season. The 17-year-old told us: “I aim to win the title. That’s
still my goal. We’ll continue as before, I’ve no worries about that. My team has produced topclass
work up until now and we certainly intend to build on past successes.”

The title fight is entering the next phase in the three races at the 5.922 kilometre track. Marvin
Dienst also has championship aspirations apart from Jensen and Günther. The 17-year-old is
third in the overall standings with a deficit of 67 points on the leader, Jensen. Dienst has fond
memories of the Slovakia Ring where in 2013, he won his first Formel ADAC race and achieved
three podiums.

He is keen to build on his success and is looking forward to the challenging circuit with its long
straights that encourage drivers to have exciting slipstream battles. “Many turns are very long
and drawn out, and quite often, the apex is well out of sight,” said the Mücke Motorsport driver,
who competes under the aegis of ADAC Berlin-Brandenburg e.V. “Since the tarmac at the track
affords plenty of grip, that has an additional effect on cornering speeds, making things twice as
much fun.”

Demo runs in new Formula 4 cars

On Thursday, August 7th, before the official start of the race weekend at the Slovakia Ring, the
ADAC will stage a demonstration run utilising Formula 4 racing cars; ADAC Formula 4 is set to
replace Formel ADAC in 2015. Formel ADAC team bosses attending the demo will have the
chance to gain an impression of how two different Formula 4 chassis perform.
