Double pole for Marvin Dienst at the Lausitzring

  • First Formel ADAC pole positions for Marvin Dienst
  • Successful start to home fixture: Two Mücke Motorsport drivers on front row
  • Fourth place on debut: Strong start for local driver Luis-Enrique Breuer

Klettwitz – The stage is set for the third round of the 2014 Formel ADAC season, as the Lausitzring hosts the ADAC High Speed Academy this weekend (May 23rd to 25th). Marvin Dienst (17, Germany, ADAC Berlin-Brandenburg e.V.) booked the perfect slot for his team Mücke Motorsport, racing under the aegis of ADAC Berlin-Brandenburg e.V., in their home fixture at the Lausitzring. The 17-year-old secured pole position in qualifying for the first of three races this weekend. Dienst covered the 3.442 km circuit in 1:24.011 minutes on his best lap.

Dienst will also be on pole in the second race in which grid positions are determined by the second-fastest lap times in qualifying. “The whole team are keen to achieve a good performance in their home race at the Lausitzring, so that makes me all the more pleased with this result,” said Dienst after his first two pole positions in the Formel ADAC. He is currently fourth in the championship standings.

Double success on home turf

Berlin-based team Mücke Motorsport, whose team headquarters are just an hour’s drive from the Lausitzring, had two reasons to celebrate after qualifying on Friday. Maximilian Günther (16, Germany, ADAC Berlin-Brandenburg e.V.) posted the second fastest lap time of 1:24.294 minutes, making the race a front-row lock-out for the team from the German metropolis.

The two team-mates Günther and Dienst had a thrilling scrap for P1 in the dying minutes of the race. Dienst won through with two sector best times to secure a lead of 0.283 seconds.

Battling for thousandths of a second

Mikkel Jensen (19, Denmark, Neuhauser Racing) took third starting position with a deficit of only five thousandths of a second on Günther, who is currently placed second in the championship standings. The Dane on 21 points leads the overall standings from ADAC Sports Foundation protégé Günther and is on the second row in the first race (visit: www.adac.de/formel-adac for live stream, Saturday 13:35).

Strong start for Berlin local driver

Luis-Enrique Breuer (17, Germany, Lotus) achieved a dream start in the Formel ADAC. The Lotus driver from Berlin secured fourth place in his first qualifying in open-wheel racing and was the most successful series rookie in his home race. On his last flying lap, Breuer consigned Kim Luis Schramm (16, Germany, ADAC Berlin -Brandenburg e.V.) to fifth place with a time of 1:24.498 minutes. Coming home behind the Mücke Motorsport driver, the Lotus trio of Dennis Marschall (17, Germany, Lotus), Joel Eriksson (16, Sweden, Lotus) and Ralph Boschung (16, Switzerland, Lotus) finished sixth, seventh and eighth respectively.

For fans unable to watch the three races in person at the Lausitzring, the ADAC is again providing a live stream this year. This free download is available from the official ADAC Motorsport website at www.adac.de/motorsport.

Marvin Dienst (17, Germany, ADAC Berlin-Brandenburg e.V.), Pole Race 1 and 2:
“I’m extremely happy with my first two pole positions in the Formel ADAC. I am a little bit surprised, though, because I went into qualifying with rather low expectations in view of the tough time I had in testing. The whole team are keen to achieve a good performance in their home race at the Lausitzring, so that makes me all the more pleased with this result. I prepared thoroughly before qualifying and used the fresh tyres to good effect when it mattered. Well, of course, I’ll now try to convert my perfect grid positions into two victories. This is my second season in the Formel ADAC and I just wanted to finish safely and maybe secure a podium or two, but now, it’s all about victories and fighting for the championship.”
