            • Sachsenring – Race 2
              Date: 10 June 2012
              Race: 8/24
              Weather: cloudy, 14°C
              Circuit length: 3.645 km
              Pole position: Gustav Malja
              Laps: 18
              Winner: Gustav Malja
              Fastest Lap: Gustav Malja (1:22.756)

Hohenstein-Ernstthal – In the second of three Formel ADAC races at the Sachsenring, Gustav Malja (16, SWE, Neuhauser Racing) secured his second consecutive victory; already in Race 1 on Saturday, the Swedish youngster had emerged victorious after a thrilling scrap with championship leader Marvin Kirchhöfer (18, Leipzig, Lotus).

“The first lap did not go well and I dropped down the field a couple of places, but my speed was fantastic towards the end of the race and I attacked again“, said Malja after his second victory. “What also helped was that I had two fresh tyres on the near-side.“

Malja had to fight hard for victory in the second race: the pole-sitter lost the lead to Jason Kremer (17, Bonn, Mücke Motorsport) and local favourite Kirchhöfer on the very first lap. He reclaimed P1, however, on lap 13 in a spectacular overtaking manoeuvre on Kremer and subsequently achieved his second victory this weekend by a comfortable margin at the finish.

Kremer finished in second place behind the winner, securing his third podium of the season. Jeffrey Schmidt (18, SUI, Lotus) started the race in fourth position and came home third, adding an international dimension to the podium; in all, three youngsters from various countries and teams took their places on the podium.

Schmidt started the race in fourth position on the grid and defended his P3 against Kirchhöfer to the finish line. Indy Dontje (19, NED, Lotus) came home just behind his team-mates Schmidt and Kirchhöfer. He had been in third place on the grid but went down two places in the course of the race to finish in fifth place on the timesheet. Luca Caspari (16, Meerbusch, Mücke Motorsport) drove an exciting race that featured many overtaking manoeuvres. He moved up from P9 to P7.

Hubertus-Carlos Vier (17, Walting / Inching, Lotus) was seventh finishing in the points once more in his second race of the year. Roy Nissany (17, ISR, Mücke Motorsport), Clemente Picariello (18, BEL, G & J / Schiller Motorsport) and Florian Herzog (18, Dresden, Mücke Motorsport) complete the top ten.

Comments from the Top Three drivers

              Gustav Malja, Winner:
“An almost perfect weekend for me – I’m well pleased. The first lap did not go well and I dropped down the field a couple of places, but my speed was fantastic towards the end of the race and I attacked again. What also helped was that I had two fresh tyres on the near-side. My car is running really well this weekend and I’m enjoying the Sachsenring a lot, and not just because of my two wins! I'm now looking forward to the third race, where I’m hoping to achieve another good result this weekend.“

              Jason Kremer, Second:
“I got away very well at the start and went into the lead. However, I knew that Gustav Malja would be very fast. I tried my best but had to let him through just a few laps before the finish. Of course, victory would have been nice, but second place enables us to make up some ground in the standings. I’m hoping for another podium in the third race. I’m in with a good chance: the car is running fantastically well and we’ve been able to go easy on tyres so far.“

              Jeffrey Schmidt, Third:
“Of course, I’m pleased with a podium but not entirely happy with my final position – a better result should have been possible today. My start was not particularly good losing me several places. However, as the race progressed, I moved up the field to P3 thanks to the car’s speed. The race was unfortunately a little too short for any further gains in position.“
