Full speed ahead after the summer break – exciting sprint races for ADAC single-seater racing juniors

  • Local youngster Jason Kremer championship runner-up ahead of race weekend in the Eifel
  • Home event for Kremer’s team, Schiller Motorsport
  • Fabian Schiller: “Full speed ahead for first podium”
  • Overall leader in championship standings Alessio Picariello returns to where he achieved first success

Nürburgring – The circuit will host the fourth race weekend of the 2013 Formel ADAC season from 2nd to 4th August. The legendary Formula 1 track in the Eifel has been an integral part of the juniors’ annual racing calendar since the series first began in 2008 and always produces exciting racing. The youngsters in ADAC’s high-speed academy will be racing on the Nürburgring’s sprint circuit this coming weekend. This stretch of track is only 3.618 km long and means an increase in the number of laps, which is just the ticket for the many spectators at the circuit since they get to see more of the drivers.

Jason Kremer (18, Germany, Schiller Motorsport) is looking forward to the challenge of his favourite circuit: “I really like the sprint circuit a lot, because the gaps between drivers are smaller, resulting in more scraps,” says Kremer in the run-up to his home race. The Nürburgring has been good for ADAC Sports Foundation protégé Kremer in the past: he secured two pole positions and a win at the historic circuit during the 2012 season.

He travels with his team Schiller Motorsport to tackle the three races feeling suitably bullish: “I aim for the win every race weekend, but when you’re competing in front of your home fans, the motivation is always going to be that much greater and the fantastic atmosphere is an additional boost to my confidence.”

That also applies to Kremer’s team-mate Fabian Schiller (16, Germany, Schiller Motorsport). The young driver lives near the Nürburgring and has known the track extremely well ever since his childhood. “Earlier, when my father was still competing on his motorbike and racing touring cars, I always used to tag along with him to the circuit in the Eifel,” says the young rookie, remembering the past exploits of his father and current team boss, Hardy Schiller. “Now it’s me sitting in the cockpit fighting for points at this great track – what a fantastic feeling! I’m sure that many friends and sponsors will be at the track and will keep their fingers crossed for me and our team since I intend to step on the gas and secure my first podium.”

Kremer has finished on the podium four times already this season and won one race when the series guested in Belgium at Spa-Francorchamps. He is in second place overall after nine out of 24 races this season. He is 48 points behind championship leader Alessio Picariello (19, Belgium, Mücke Motorsport).

Picariello, who achieved his first Formel ADAC victory at the Nürburgring in 2012, has had an excellent start to his second season. The Belgian has won five races and intends to confirm his strong form at the Nürburgring. “I’ve already proved that I’m very fast here,” says the Mücke Motorsport driver. “The often unpredictable weather is a factor that should never be ignored. But no matter whether the sun shines or it rains, conditions are the same for everyone and I will just drive as fast as possible.”
