Formel ADAC: 2014 season gets under way

Oschersleben - Formel ADAC is gearing up for its seventh season in 2014. The young single seater racing trainees will get their first chance to put their skills to the test this season at the traditional season opener in the etropolis Motorsport Arena Oschersleben on the weekend of April 25th-27th. The ADAC high-speed academy has a strong and international field of starters this year. So far, six teams have signed up for a total of 19 grid positions in the upcoming season.

Formel ADAC will field an interesting mix of experienced drivers and talented newcomers in 2014. Nine of the young hopefuls will be making their Formel ADAC debut, competing for the first time in the 145bhp Formel ADAC racing cars powered by Volkswagen. The Teams used the official test sessions at Oschersleben (April 8th-10th) to prepare for the start of the season in two weeks' time.

Continuity for team champions

Reigning team champions Mücke Motorsport, who race under the banner of ADAC Berlin Brandenburg e.V., are going for continuity this year. Last year's runner-up Maximilian Günther, Kim-Luis Schramm and Swiss teenager Giorgio Maggi will be commencing their second season with the Berlin-based team. The team gains two new additions, Marvin Dienst, now in his second Formel ADAC season and Philip Hamprecht. The sixth driver in the squad is to be announced at a later date.

Lotus will field five drivers this year and have an international line-up of youngsters. Swiss teenager Ralph Boschung has already gained some Formel ADAC experience during the previous season but is new to the team from Oschersleben. Lotus will also rely on the services of two newcomers to the series in the shape of ADAC Sports Foundation protégé Dennis Marshall and Swedish teenager Joel Eriksson. Joel is the younger brother of former Lotus driver Jimmy Eriksson, who will be competing this season in GP3. The names of the two other drivers are to be announced shortly.

Son of racing driver new to Formel ADAC

Neuhauser Racing from Austria have a mix of experienced drivers and rookies. The runners-up in the team title will field two newcomers in 2014: Mikkel Jensen and ADAC Sports Foundation protégé Tim Zimmermann. Danish youngster Jensen can already draw on one year's experience gained in Formel ADAC and intends to use what he has learned to achieve further success.

Fabian Schiller will also line up with Schiller Motorsport for his second season in the ADAC's junior series and gets a new team-mate - ADAC Sports Foundation protégé Nico Menzel, son of former DTM driver Christian Menzel. JBR Motorsport & Engineering will give David Kolkmann, who is moving up from karting, and Polish teenager Igor Walilko a chance. Kevin Brutschin also joins the team for the last two race weekends of the season at the Sachsenring and in Hockenheim.

Girl power at HS Engineering

Another young lady will contest Formel ADAC again this year. Corinna Kamper is to line up for HS Engineering. The Austrian teenager already has some experience of open-wheel racing and continues the tradition of female drivers in the junior series. Beitske Visser is the most successful lady to date in the Formel ADAC with three wins in the past two seasons.

24 races to be run under aegis of ADAC GT Masters

Formel ADAC will again be run under the aegis of the ADAC GT Masters during the 2014 season. There are eight events on the programme, scheduled to take place in Germany, Austria, Slovakia and in the Netherlands. 24 races in all will be staged at five racetracks in Germany, at the Red Bull Ring in Austria, at the Slovakia Ring in Slovakia and in Zandvoort, Holland.

Bringing on young talent in Formel ADAC has a long tradition and down the years, it has been the springboard for many stars in motor racing. In the past, Formula 1 drivers including four time world champion Sebastian Vettel, Nico Hülkenberg and Nico Rosberg, plus DTM stars such as Martin Tomczyk and Timo Glock all began their successful careers in the ADAC junior single-seater series.
