Lausitzring - The Formel ADAC staged the third race weekend of the 2014 season from May 23rd to 25th at the Lausitzring. More than 12,000 spectators came through the gates at the ADAC GT Masters during the weekend and watched the three races of the ADAC High Speed Academy.
Mücke Motorsport come up trumps in home race: This was a home fixture at the Lausitzring for Mücke Motorsport from Berlin, who compete under the aegis of the ADAC Berlin-Brandenburg e.V. Many friends, fans and sponsors came to the Lausitzring to wish the team luck. And with some success, as Mücke Motorsport secured two pole positions, two double victories and posted all of the fastest race laps. For the first time this season, the outfit took the lead in the team standings. ADAC Sports Foundation protégé Maximilian Günther went into the record books for a second time. He is the only Formel ADAC driver ever to have won three races at the Lausitzring - all with Mücke Motorsport.
Debut goes with a bang: Formel ADAC welcomed a new youngster to the Lausitzring: Luis Enrique Breuer from Berlin took the wheel for the first time at Lotus and impressed in every way. Breuer achieved a podium on his debut weekend and was almost lost for words. "Some friends from Berlin have come along to spectate and it's a great feeling to stand on the podium in front of them," said the rookie after his home race. Breuer had previously made everyone sit up and look by posting fourth fastest time in qualifying and achieving two top ten finishes.
Variety of names on Lausitzring podium: The races at the Lausitzring traditionally produce a wide variety of finishers on the podium. Since the inauguration of the Formel ADAC in 2008, 16 different drivers have won in the 19 races held at the Lausitzring so far. Three different youngsters finished on top this weekend. For the first time this season, a rookie, Dennis Marschall, won through in the third race against more experienced drivers.
TV starlet: Marvin Dienst was back in front of the TV cameras once again. DASDING.tv, a magazine programme for teenagers broadcast by SWR, followed the Mücke Motorsport driver around for a day. In the five-minute clip, viewers see a complete day in the life of a young racing car driver. "The shoot was tiring, but great fun," said Dienst. "I feel really at ease in front of the camera." Most recently, the 17-year-old was to be seen in RTL's Spiegel TV Magazin.
Birthday party at Lausitzring: Fabian Schiller celebrated his 17th birthday on Saturday and clinched four championship points as a birthday present to himself - the Schiller Motorsport driver went on an exciting charge from last place to eighth. His reward, a huge birthday cake and a barbecue in the paddock. "I love motor racing. There's no better way to spend your birthday than being at the track for a race weekend," said Fabian Schiller.
Something for autograph hunters: The Formel ADAC teams were housed in the buildings directly next to the pit lane at the Lausitzring. The two Neuhauser Racing youngsters Mikkel Jensen and Tim Zimmermann used the opportunity to good effect. During the ADAC GT Masters Pit Walk, the duo simply erected a table with autograph cards in front of their own pits. Their action was well received by fans. Zimmermann: "I've never signed so many autographs in my life before."
