Kirchhöfer and Malja storm to pole positions at Sachsenring
- Marvin Kirchhöfer on pole in first race at home event at Sachsenring
- Gustav Malja in pole position for second Formel ADAC race
- Top Eight covered by just half a second
On the third race weekend of the 2012 Formel ADAC season, Marvin Kirchhöfer (18, Leipzig, Lotus) secures pole position for the first race at the Sachsenring. "It's great to be in pole position in the first race, my home race," said the young ADAC Sports Foundation driver. "Of course, I'll be on the offensive, make no doubt about that and I hope to secure my fourth win of the season in the Formel ADAC."
Kirchhöfer posted the fastest lap in qualifying this Saturday morning - 1:22.489 minutes. The championship leader maintained his lead on Gustav Malja (16, SWE, Neuhauser Racing) by the smallest of margins 0.076 secs. Malja will share the front row with Kirchhöfer. The Swedish driver, who posted the second fastest time, will be in pole position for the second race this weekend, because the results from qualifying also decide the positions on the starting grid for the second race. The grid positions are taken from the next fastest lap times in qualifying.
Jason Kremer (17, Bonn, Mücke Motorsport) secured third place on the grid in Race 1, which means that three young drivers from three different teams are in the top three positions for the first race. Indy Dontje (19, NED, Lotus) will be next to Kremer on the second row. Luca Caspari (16, Meerbusch, Mücke Motorsport) finished fifth on the time sheets ahead of Jeffrey Schmidt (18, SUI, Lotus). Roy Nissany (17, ISR, Mücke Motorsport) and Hubertus- Carlos Vier (17 Walting / Inching, Lotus) share the fourth row for the first race on Saturday afternoon.
Qualifying once again highlighted the intensely competitive nature of the Formel ADAC School since just half a second covered the lap times of the top eight drivers.
Marvin Kirchhöfer (18, Leipzig, Lotus), Pole Position Race 1:
"It's great to be on pole for the first race at the Sachsenring, which is my home event. Of course, I'll be on the offensive, make no doubt about that and I hope to secure my fourth win of the season in the Formel ADAC. Unfortunately, it was not enough to give me two pole positions because I collided with another driver at the start of qualifying, and damaged the car, so I could only post one hot lap - but it was good enough to bag best time."
Gustav Malja (16, SWE, Neuhauser Racing), Pole Position Race 2:
"Pole position in the second of three races this weekend is a good basis for my first win. I got stuck in traffic quite a bit today and so it was not easy to get a clear lap. Unfortunately, none of my laps was perfect, but still, I remained calm and eventually it paid off. I have one aim this weekend, to finally win my first race in the Formel ADAC."
