- Third double pole in a row for ADAC Sports Foundation protégé Maximilian Günther
- Front row for ADAC Berlin-Brandenburg e.V. duo Günther and Alessio Picariello
- Local favourite Hendrik Grapp on second row
Lausitzring – Formel ADAC is entering a crucial phase. The ADAC High-Speed Academy is guesting at the Lausitzring as the third-to-last race weekend of the 2013 season gets under way. Maximilian Günther (16, Germany, ADAC Berlin-Brandenburg e.V.) has achieved the best possible position in the first of three points-scoring races at the Lausitzring. A newcomer to the series, he is contesting a home race for his team, ADAC Berlin-Brandenburg e.V. He won through against the opposition in qualifying and will be on pole in the first race on Saturday at 1:50pm. “The marvellous backdrop of the Lausitzring makes me feel even more motivated to do well. To get my first win at my team’s home race would be just perfect,” said the ADAC Sports Foundation protégé.
Günther, placed second in the championship, is also on pole in the second race on Sunday at 10:55am in which grid positions are determined on the basis of the second fastest lap times in qualifying. This is the third time that the 16-year-old has won through in qualifying. ADAC Berlin-Brandenburg e.V. has achieved a total of ten pole positions this season.
Action-packed scrap between ADAC Berlin-Brandenburg e.V. drivers
There was a cracking scrap once again in qualifying between the two team-mates Günther and Alessio Picariello (20, Belgium, ADAC Berlin-Brandenburg e.V.). The championship leader was placed at the top of the timesheets mid-way through the session, but, six minutes from the end of the session, Günther posted an excellent lap, setting best times in all three sectors to take the lead. He improved yet again with just three minutes on the clock and secured the fastest time – 1:23.824 minutes. Picariello finished with a deficit of 0.385 seconds and will be in second place on the grid in the 16th race of the year.
Things were equally as gripping to the rear of the two ADAC Berlin-Brandenburg e.V. drivers. Track conditions at the 3.442km circuit improved continuously in the closing minutes, and so a thrilling scrap for the top grid positions broke out. Marvin Dienst (16, Germany, Neuhauser Racing) beat off the opposition with a personal best time of 1:24.434 minutes to secure third position on the grid. The Neuhauser Racing driver’s deficit on Günther’s best time was 0.610 seconds.
Local driver Grapp on second row
Local favourite Hendrik Grapp (19, Germany, ADAC Berlin-Brandenburg e.V.) posted the fourth best lap time – 1:24.600 minutes – on his home turf and will be on the second row of the grid in Saturday’s race. Grapp achieved his first Formel ADAC win last season at the Lausitzring.
Jason Kremer (18, Germany, Schiller Motorsport) was in third position for quite a long time during qualifying but in the end had to be satisfied with P5 on the grid next to sixth-placed Nicolas Beer (17, Denmark, Neuhauser Racing). The two newcomers to the series Mikkel Jensen (18, Denmark, Lotus) and Ralph Boschung (15, Switzerland, KUG Motorsport) head up the fourth row.
For fans unable to get to the circuit to watch the three races at the Lausitzring, the ADAC is once again providing a live stream, which is freely available on the official ADAC Motorsport website at www.adac.de/motorsport.
Maximilian Günther (16, Germany, ADAC Berlin-Brandenburg e.V.), Pole Race 1 and 2:
“My third double-pole in a row. I’m thrilled to bits. Qualifying again went very well for me. I'm really happy and enjoying the feeling. I got a bit stuck in traffic at the beginning of the session and couldn’t extract the maximum from the car. My timing was much better during the second attempt, and the times I secured met all my expectations. I’m now in the best possible position for the weekend and will do everything possible to keep P1 in the race. The marvellous backdrop of the Lausitzring makes me feel even more motivated to do well. To get my first win at my team’s home race would be just perfect.”
