- Tim Jarschel wins the 2024 DTM eSports Championship – powered by RaceRoom
- Moritz Löhner bags a brace of wins at the Hockenheimring
- Jarschel wins € 5,000 in prize money and a GT4 test
Munich. Tim Jarschel (Falken Simracing Team) was crowned champion at the end of what was the most exciting race day of this season’s DTM eSports Championship – powered by RaceRoom. The title race between Jarschel and Nikodem Wisniewski (G2 Esports) came down to the final race of the season. The German had led the table from day one and claimed three victories and eight podiums. As well as € 5,000 in prize money, Jarschel also wins a GT4 test, provided by Dörr Motorsport.
Löhner celebrates victory in race one
In actual fact, it the race wins at the Hockenheimring went elsewhere. Moritz Löhner (MOUZ) won both races in commanding fashion, and also set the fastest lap time in the main race.
Jarschel qualified third for the opening race, behind Marko Pejic (Veloce Esports) and Isaac Price (G2 Esports), putting him in a good position to wrap up the title with a race still to come. He extended his lead over Wisniewski to 45 points, with the G2 Esports driver having to settle for sixth place on the grid. However, the way the race unfolded actually played into Wisniewski’s hands. While Löhner rocketed straight into the lead at the start, the positions behind him were fiercely contested. Löhner led ahead of Price and Wisniewski, with Jarschel down in sixth place. Contact a few laps later saw Jarschel take an excursion into the gravel bed, and he rejoined the race in twelfth place. Shortly before the finish, he lost a further three positions and ultimately had to settle for 15th place. Back at the front of the field, Löhner was delighted to take victory ahead of Wisniewski, who did his title chances no harm at all.
Jarschel secures the title in the main race
Jarschel went into the final qualifying session of the season having seen his lead in the championship shrink to just 29 points. He withstood the pressure and qualified fourth. Löhner secured pole position, ahead of Wisniewski and Gianmarco Fiduci (Veloce Esports). After an eventful first lap, Wisniewski found himself out in front, followed by Löhner and Fiduci. Fourth-placed Jarschel had to fend off the attentions of his pursuers Siggy and Macell Csincsik (R8G Esports). After the pit stop, Wisniewski settled into second place behind Löhner, while Jarschel lost a position to Siggy and found himself fifth. The defining moment in the title race came with just a few minutes remaining: braking into the hairpin, Fiduci hit Wisniewski from behind and sent him into a spin. Jarschel consequently moved into third place, which was good enough to secure the title. Löhner made it two wins at the Hockenheimring, while Jarschel was crowned 2024 DTM eSports Champion.
Jarschel eventually won the title with 296 points. Wisniewski came up 35 points short, but was rewarded for second place with € 3,500 and a guest start in the ADAC Touring Car Junior Cup. Siggy finished third with 247 points and receives € 1,500 in prize money.
Tim Jarschel: “I am absolutely exhausted. 15th place and the minor crash in race one made it tense again. I was a little nervous in the second qualifying session. However, it all worked out and I am mega happy! I was not actually under any pressure coming into the race day, as I had a big cushion. However, the pressure was big again after the first race. I am now really looking forward to the GT4 test.”
Moritz Löhner: “I have always done well in Hockenheim – whether in sim racing or real life. Plus, the BMW was finally given a boost in the BoP. I made the most of that with the two race wins. That is a good end to the season. I am thrilled for Tim that he won the title.”
Nikodem Wisniewski: “It was clear to me that the gap to Tim was really too great to be able to do anything about it. I obviously did my best, but I was focussing more on keeping Kevin below me in the table. I am really excited about my guest start and hope for a cool circuit. It will definitely be a great experience. Tim deserved the title. He was very consistent and did not have any misfortune. He had a great season.”
While the 2024 DTM eSports Championship – powered by RaceRoom reached a thrilling conclusion, the real DTM kicks off its 40th anniversary season in Oschersleben this weekend.
