Icons on the track, legends behind the wheel: Mustang and Kurt Thiim with DTM Classic at the Nürburgring

Munich. Few circuits are as closely associated with the DTM as the Nürburgring, which has hosted the series every season since 1984 - without exception. As such, it is only fitting that a selection of legendary DTM classics - including the Audi V8, Mercedes 190E Evo II, and the BMW M3 E30 - should be taken for a spin on the Grand Prix circuit at the DTM race weekend from 13th to 15th August, allowing spectators to experience the origins of the series at first hand. The cars from the 80s and 90s will roar to life in the Eifel region on a total of five show drives.

Visitors can look forward to a real legend behind the wheel too: DTM champion Kurt Thiim will drive a Mercedes 190E EVO II. The Dane tasted victory twice at 'The Ring' during his active time in the series. In 1986, he also crowned his season with the title in a Rover Vitesse. His son now also dreams of winning the title: multiple impressive displays have seen Nicki top the table in an Aston Martin in this year's DTM, and he can be sure that his father will be cheering him on at the racetrack.

The DTM has had a new crowd favourite since last year: the Ford Mustang GT3. With Arjun Maini and Finn Wiebelhaus in the cockpit, the muscle car has made it onto the podium on several occasions already this season. However, Ford's new GT3 racer is not the first 'Pony' to mix it up in the DTM. Back in the late 80s and early 90s, Berlin-based privateer Gerd Ruch lined up in a third generation Mustang, known as the Foxbody, and won the hearts of the spectators. Over 30 years later, the stallion from Michigan returns to the Nürburgring, where it will treat fans to the unique sound of its mighty V8.

And there is more for Ford fans: three Ford Sierra Cosworth RS500, the championship-winning car from 1988, will also be there to thrill the crowds. The DTM classics will also be joined by a rarity from Japan: a genuine Toyota Supra Mk3 DTM from 1987. The car was in action at the Nürburgring back in 1989, with Philipp Müller behind the wheel, and it still sports its original look and historic start number to this day.

Anyone wanting to feast their eyes and ears on the DTM classics should be at the circuit on Friday from 13:20 to 13:40 and 18:05 to 18:25, Saturday from 12:05 to 12:25, and Sunday from 09:40 to 09:55.
