World first in the DTM: Bortolotti claims maiden victory for the new Lamborghini Temerario

Oschersleben. Huge celebrations for Mirko Bortolotti (I/TGI Team by GRT) and Lamborghini: the Italian won Sunday's race in Oschersleben after an impressive driving display, coupled with tactical nous. Bortolotti started the race from sixth place and took the chequered flag as the winner 39 laps later. This was his first DTM success for almost two years - and the very first win for the new Lamborghini Temerario GT3. "I am incredibly proud to have claimed the first victory in the world with the new Lamborghini Temerario. And to do so in the strongest racing series, in which the car is used. I would like to dedicate this success to my injured team-mate Maximilian Paul," said an overjoyed Bortolotti. "We had a super strategy, but I also had to make the difference on the track." Championship leader Maro Engel (Monaco/Mercedes-AMG Team Ravenol) was runner-up, and extended his lead at the top of the table. Thomas Preining (A/Manthey) ended race ten of the season in third place in a Porsche 911 GT3 R. In total, 55,100 spectators followed the fifth DTM race weekend of the year in the Magdeburg Börde region.

Pole-sitter Preining initially controlled the Sunday race in Oschersleben, followed by Lamborghini driver Luca Engstler (Kempten/Red Bull Team Abt) and Arjun Maini (IND/HRT Ford Racing) in second and third place. Bortolotti and Engel were sixth and seventh at this point. Bortolotti was the last driver to come in for the first of the two mandatory pit stops - a tactic that paid dividends: the Italian returned to the track in second place, behind Preining and just ahead of Engel, who had also made up ground thanks to a fast tyre change.

The spectators in the full grandstands were treated to some spectacular scenes during the second pit stop in Oschersleben, when the top three all came in for new Pirelli slicks at the same time. Race leader Preining lost more than two seconds on his closest rivals. That left Bortolotti leading the race, ahead of Engel. By the time he crossed the finish line, he had opened a comfortable gap of more than three seconds. Behind runner-up Engel, Preining managed to hang on to third place, ahead of BMW driver Marco Wittmann (Fürth/Schubert Motorsport), who pushed hard until the very end. Engstler was fifth in another Lamborghini Temerario GT3.

Maini took sixth place in a Ford Mustang GT3, while Kelvin van der Linde (ZA) guided the second BMW M4 GT3 Evo of home team Schubert Motorsport to seventh. Ricardo Feller (CH/Manthey) ended race ten of the DTM season in eighth place in a Porsche 911 GT3 R, ahead of Jules Gounon (F/Mercedes-AMG Team Mann-Filter) in ninth. The best-placed Ferrari driver was Matteo Cairoli (I/Emil Frey Racing) in tenth place.

Maro Engel: "Our strategy and the fast pit stops were key to getting into second place. I am delighted with our successful weekend. In the closing stages, I was glad that Marco Wittmann and Thomas Preining were so busy battling with each other behind me. That gave me a bit of breathing space."

Thomas Preining: "I really wanted to win, but unfortunately mistakes like the one during the pit stop can happen sometimes. Despite third place, it was still a mega weekend for us. We scored a crazy number of points and took a big step towards getting back into the title race."
