From Baby Benz to Class 1: DTM icons in Oschersleben

• Six demo drives feature on the DTM event programme
• Legendary race cars from Mercedes-Benz, BMW, Ford, Opel and Audi

Munich. Visitors to the DTM in Oschersleben can look forward to a special highlight on the event programme: DTM Classic is bringing legendary race cars from across the history of the series, which stretches back more than 40 years, back onto the track. Demonstration drives on all three days of the event, featuring classics from all four decades, will set the pulse of visitors to the Motorsport Arena racing. From the Mercedes-Benz 190 E, BMW M3 and Ford Sierra from the 1980s, to the spectacular Class 1 racers from the 2000s, a high-class field of iconic cars will serve up a treat for all motorsport fans.

The oldest car in the field is a Mercedes 190 E 2.3-16V from 1986. A true DTM original, which lined up with Ludwig Weber at the wheel in 1987, and still sports its original look to this day. The early “Baby Benz” is a fine example of the production-based beginnings of the DTM. The next stage of that model – the Evolution II from the early 1990s – is also represented in Oschersleben. The same obviously goes for its arch-rival, the BMW E30 M3, of which there are several in the field.

Ford showed early on in proceedings that the Swabians and Bavarians were not the only ones who could win in the DTM. The Ford Sierra RS500 Cosworth won the title in 1988, with Klaus Ludwig at the wheel, setting new benchmarks thanks to its powerful turbo technology. With that in mind, it is only logical that the legendary “Cossi” will also take to the track in Oschersleben. Opel is another manufacturer that shaped the DTM for many years, with the 1990s being particularly spectacular. Even today, the Omega Evo 500 remains one of the big fan favourites from Rüsselsheim, and joins the party in Oschersleben.

An original ABT Audi TT-R from 2000 represents the era of the newly-founded German Touring Car Masters. In its first season, the sound monster was driven by Britain’s James Thompson in Oschersleben. Stefan Mücke will provide even more Class 1 spectacle in the Börde region. He will be at the wheel of an original DTM AMG Mercedes C Class from 2005, which he also drove in Oschersleben during his time in the DTM.

The vintage cars are an integral part of the programme on all three days of the event. In total, the classics will take to the track six times in Oschersleben, showcasing the development of the DTM from the 1980s to the present day. The appearances will take place on Friday 24th July at 13:45 and 17:00, on Saturday 25th July at 12:00 and 17:15, and on Sunday 26th July at 11:25 and 16:30.
