Munich. DTM history brought to life: the highlight of the DTM season, from 3rd to 5th July at the Norisring in Nuremberg, would not be complete without a trip back in time through the eventful history of the series. Demonstration drives featuring vintage DTM cars on all three days of the event will see iconic cars from different eras of the DTM assemble at a circuit, which is intrinsically linked to the history of the racing series.
Among those representing the early, production-based years of the DTM will be a Mercedes-Benz 190E 2.3-16V, several BMW M3 E30, and various different Ford Sierra Cosworth. At the wheel of one BMW M3 E30 will be Herbert Wittmann, father of two-time DTM champion Marco Wittmann, for whom the event is a home outing. The Toyota Supra MK3 DTM of Jörg Schori has a special Norisring history: the car from the Far East sports the number 50 - the same as it did for the DTM race at the Norisring back in 1989.
The DTM of the early 1990s will be represented by several cars, including a Mercedes-Benz 190E Evo II, an Opel Omega Evo 500, and an Audi V8. The latter will be driven by former DTM racer and local hero Gerhard Müller from Schwabach, who knows exactly how it feels to race in the DTM at the Norisring. Sebastian Asch, the son of DTM legend Roland Asch, will drive a Mercedes-Benz 190E Evo I.
Youngster Thomas Rackl is also returning to his home circuit. The driver from Berching, who spent last year racing in ADAC GT4 Germany, will be at the wheel of a BMW 320 STW from 1994, representing the era of the Super Touring Car Cup.
The more recent DTM history will be represented by an original Opel Astra V8 Coupé DTM from 2003, which was once driven by Joachim Winkelhock, and a 2006 AMG-Mercedes C-Class DTM von 2006.
Anyone wishing to experience the classic DTM cars should act fast and get their tickets for the DTM at the Norisring in good time. The demonstration drives offer a rare opportunity to see some of the best-known touring cars of recent decades in action at a very special circuit.
DTM Classic will be on track on Friday from 13:20 to 13:40 and 17:40 to 18:00, Saturday from 12:05 to 12:25 and 17:20 to 17:35, and Sunday from 10:05 to 10:15 and 16:30 to 16:50.
