DTM – Stars and Stories from the Dekra Lausitzring
Klettwitz. Summer weather, open-air concerts, and a festival feeling: the DTM weekend at the Dekra Lausitzring put on an entertaining and varied programme for the 58,000 visitors. Rock 'n' roll with Sasha alias Dick Brave, a cinema evening with DTM partner CineStar, and a guest appearance from German rally champion Marijan Griebel. As well as influencer Patrice Aminati, the VIP visitors also included football legend Felix Magath and Bundesliga pro Maximilian Arnold.
Rock ’n’ roll and racing feeling: Dick Brave thrills at the Lausitzring
DTM fans enjoyed a musical highlight after Saturday's race at the Lausitzring: Dick Brave went full throttle on the "DTM Powerstage presented by Pirelli". Goldplay.live and DJ Tomekk had already warmed up the crowd, before Germany's best-known rock 'n' roller took to the stage and delighted spectators with a mix of rockabilly energy and vintage charm. "I had a lot of fun at the concert! The crowd was fantastic and had an incredible amount of energy: motorsport and music go really well together. We both have a lot of fire and power. Walking around the grid, I marvelled at the DTM cars, and it was great to send them into the race," said Dick Brave. On Sunday, he got involved in the race action himself, sending the field into the second DTM race at the Lausitzring with the "Drivers start your engines" sign.
Patrice Aminati in the Schaeffler Race Taxi
Patrice Aminati dropped into the Lausitzring on Sunday, having been invited by DTM partner Schaeffler. The presenter and influencer, who was born in Dresden, took a look around the paddock, inspected the cars, and then headed out for a ride in the Schaeffler Innovation Taxi. "When I was a child, I always used to travel to the DTM with my father and sister. As such, it was very special for me to do a lap in the race taxi with Markus Winkelhock. I was screaming the whole time, because I found it so cool," said Aminati.
VIP guest Felix Magath predicts German World Cup win
Football icon Felix Magath was a guest of Schaeffler at the DTM on Saturday. During his visit, he experienced at first hand how quickly the teams reacted to the sudden change in the weather. "When the rain started to fall, it provided a perfect opportunity to see that you have to adapt very quickly to changing conditions in motor racing. It is similar in football, but not as extreme as in the DTM," said Magath, who was a European champion, runner-up in the World Cup, and three-time German champion in his football days. The former midfield general was almost right with his 2:0 tip for the German team's match against Cote d'Ivoire on Saturday evening. "My favourite to win the World Cup is Spain," revealed Magath, who got the DTM field up and running with the "Drivers start your engines" sign on Saturday, before presenting the trophy to third-placed Ricardo Feller.
Red carpet: DTM and partner CineStar celebrate at Westfield Centro
DTM and partner CineStar had cause for celebration as early as the Wednesday before the race weekend: CineStar Oberhausen it Westfield Centro reopened after a renovation and complete refurbishment costing € 16 million. Among the 250 guests invited were actor Heino Ferch and entertainer Helge Schneider, as well as DTM driver Luca Engstler. There was also a cinema experience at the Lausitzring: on Friday evening, CineStar presented the action classic "Need for Speed" on the big screen in the Fan Zone.
German rally champion Griebel makes guest appearance in BMW M2 Cup
With five national titles to his name, reigning rally champion Marijan Griebel is one of the most successful German rally drivers. The man from Hahnweiler made a guest start in the BMW M2 Cup at the Lausitzring. "That was all new territory for me. I only got to know the car and take on the key information shortly before my first outing," said Griebel. His summary: "While you have to adapt to new situations in the blink of an eye in a rally car, absolute perfection is what you need at the racetrack. I really enjoyed driving at the Lausitzring against this great backdrop. For the young drivers in the BMW M2 Cup, it is a great opportunity to showcase their talent on the DTM platform."
Double birthday celebrations for Buus and van der Linde
It was a special weekend for two DTM drivers: newcomer Bastian Buus and the returning Kelvin van der Linde both celebrated birthdays on Saturday. Danish Porsche driver Buus turned 23, and received a surprise cake from his team. Van der Linde also received a gift from his team on his 30th birthday. "There are perhaps nicer places to celebrate your birthday than at a racetrack, but I think it is fitting for me, because motorsport has shaped my life since I was a child. The team surprised me with a cake, which I was thrilled about," said the BMW works driver.
DTM fan Maxi Arnold visits Luca Engstler
As a big DTM fan, Wolfsburg footballer Maximilian Arnold accepted an invitation from his friend Luca Engstler and visited the Lausitzring on Sunday. Arnold, who was born in Saxony, enjoyed the atmosphere in the pit lane and checked out Engstler's new Lamborghini Temerario GT3 in summery temperatures. "I am obviously at the DTM because of Luca Engstler, but also because I find motorsport fascinating," said Arnold, adding with a grind: "My biggest dream is to drive alongside Luca in a 24-hour race at some time."
Pirelli Group hosts DRIVER annual meeting at the Lausitzring
Tyre and automotive service network DRIVER, which is part of the Pirelli Group, met in Dresden and at the Lausitzring from 19th to 21st June. The meeting concluded with an evening event at the DTM, at which the management recognised partner companies for their outstanding efforts with the "DRIVER Service Award". "With our partner companies Pirelli and the DTM, we are strengthening our commitment to quality and customer focus," said Rolf Körbler, Managing Director of DRIVER Handelssysteme GmbH. Christian Mielacher, Managing Director of DRIVER Reifen und Kfz-Technik GmbH, added: "Good service demands speed, precision and a well-oiled team. What is crucial in the pit lane is also essential in the workshop: reliable deadlines, clean processes and safe service."
Truck power thrills crowds
Round two of this season's TGP championship delighted spectators on the DTM support programme. Powered by more than 1,000 horsepower, the five-ton trucks battled it out at high speed in Lusatia. Defending champion Sascha Lenz from SL Trucksport 30 lived up to his billing as favourite and defended his championship lead after a feast of XXL motorsport.
