Munich. A new platform is set to attract plenty of attention for the DTM: “BEHIND THE GRID” – a documentary on linear TV and streaming services that enables fans to take an exclusive peek behind the scenes of the historic racing series. The documentary series will be available free of charge on streaming provider
Joyn,
Servus TV On,
Red Bull TV and on the official
YouTube channel of the DTM. Extracts will also be broadcast free-to-air on the linear ProSieben channel. The first episode of “BEHIND THE GRID” goes online from Friday 28th August 2026, at 8 p.m. A new episode will then appear each week, leading up to the grand season finale at the Hockenheimring. Each episode runs for approx. 20 minutes.
“BEHIND THE GRID” focuses on the people who shape the sport: drivers, teams, mechanics, engineers and management. The series shows the emotions behind the events witnessed by the fans at the circuit during the race weekends. Each episode follows a specific narrative arc, sticking closely to the key figures. It is all about expectations, pressure situations, conflicts, decisions, teamwork, passion, setbacks, triumphs – and the sporting intensity of the DTM.
The DTM is adding a modern TV and streaming format to its video offerings with “BEHIND THE GRID”. This documentary provides an insider perspective on the series, delivering real added value for existing motorsport fans. The independent, real-life characters in the series are also sure to attract viewers who have thus far followed the sport from a distance.
“The DTM boasts plenty of strong personalities and interesting characters. In ‘BEHIND THE GRID’, we want to reveal some unfamiliar aspects of these figures to the viewers. This format adds a crucial new component to our communication strategy for the DTM. We want to provide additional content for fans, while simultaneously making the series accessible to a wider public. That can only work with well-crafted stories, and the documentary series is the ideal format for this. We are delighted that the drivers, teams and manufacturers are actively supporting this project. They really have been willing to provide some exclusive insights – which is exactly what makes ‘BEHIND THE GRID’ so special“, says DTM Managing Director Claudia Wagner.
“BEHIND THE GRID” is produced by fahrwerkfilm, whose camera teams have been embedded with the DTM since the start of the season. They have been recording in the paddock and the pits, with the teams, and all around the drivers. The focus is on authentic storytelling, real-life situations and exclusive perspectives from the heart of the race series.
Peter Linke, CEO of fahrwerkfilm GmbH: “During filming, we notice time and again just how much potential the DTM has if you do not just report on the results and racing action but tell the stories of the people behind all that. The documentary format is particularly well suited to motorsport, as pressure, rivalry, teamwork, joy and disappointment are palpable during every race weekend. We are delighted to be sharing this perspective with a larger audience.”
