- The DTM supports the world's biggest running event
- BMW M works driver Kelvin van der Linde leads "Team DTM"
- Wings for Life ambassadors Marcel Hirscher and Matthias Walkner are guests of the DTM at the Red Bull Ring
Munich. When the 2026 Wings for Life World Run gets underway on 10th May, the DTM will be part of the world's biggest running event. The racing series will be represented in the international charity run by "Team DTM", which sees the DTM family come together with all its more energetic fans to run for the good cause. Red Bull athlete and BMW M works driver Kelvin van der Linde (ZA) captains "Team DTM". The Wings for Life foundation is the charity partner of the DTM and dedicated to spinal cord research and finding a cure for paraplegia.
The Wings for Life World Run is on 10th May and starts at the same time for all participants, bringing together people all over the world. Anyone can enter - whether elite athlete, wheelchair user, walker or casual jogger. Participants take part in Flagship Runs in international cities, or virtually anywhere in the world using the Wings for Life World Run App. Rather than a classic finish line, the charity event uses a so-called catcher car, which pursues the runners until it reels them in, either physically at one of the Flagship Runs, or virtually. Every participant can run at their own pace, safe in the knowledge that 100 percent of their entry fee goes to support the work of Wings for Life, and with that the goal of finding cures for paraplegia. DTM fans can register via the Wings for Life World Run App and join the stars of the DTM in the racing series' team, as we come together for a good cause.
"I am proud to captain 'Team DTM'," says BMW works driver van der Linde, who is making his DTM comeback this year with Schubert Motorsport. "The Wings for Life World Run is a magnificent event, in which anyone can support a good and important cause - no matter where they are doing the run. I will be at the Flagship Run in Munich and am looking forward to running for the charity in a team with many fans, whether in Munich or virtually."
The Wings for Life foundation was formed in 2004 and supports global projects researching ways to heal spinal cord injuries. The goal in the long term is to use scientific progress to develop cures and to offer those affected new perspectives. The Wings for Life World Run was held for the first time in 2014. Last year, more than 310,000 people took part - including celebrities like multiple Olympic and world champion Marcel Hirscher. The skiing star will be joined by Paris-Dakar winner Matthias Walkner at the DTM opener at the Red Bull Ring (24th to 26th April), in order to raise awareness of the important issue and the Wings for Life World Run.
