- Demo laps with legendary racers from 40 years of the DTM
- Former champions and DTM heroes such as Strycek, Mücke and Grohs at the wheel
Munich. Powerful sounds, iconic silhouettes and the unmistakable aroma of motor racing history: spectators at the Nürburgring DTM weekend from 8th to 10th August will get to experience legendary DTM cars completing demonstration laps of the circuit. Fans can look forward to seeing highlights from the varied history of the DTM, from the BMW M3 and Mercedes-Benz 190E 2.5-16V Evo II via the Opel Calibra V6 to the Opel Astra V8 Coupé.
There will be a wide range of cars on show, including classic Group A racers from the Class 1 era as well as Class 1 cars from later years. These will include an Abt Audi TT-R from 2000, which then had British driver James Thompson at the wheel. This will be joined by several BMW M3 E30s – including one of Dieter Quester’s – and the Ford Mustang of former fans’ favourite Gerd Ruch, a Mercedes-Benz 190E Evo II from Roland Asch and two Opel Astra V8 Coupés, formerly driven by Peter Dumbreck and Joachim Winkelhock.
The cars will have true DTM legends at the controls: Harald Grohs will be at the wheel of one of his former BMW M3s, while Stefan Mücke (Mercedes-Benz C-Class) and the very first DTM champion Volker Strycek will also be taking part in the demonstration laps. The latter will be driving a legendary Opel Calibra V6 4x4 from the 1994 season. The demo laps will also feature former ADAC GT Masters champion Sebastian Asch putting a 1987 Ford Sierra Cosworth through its paces.
These demonstrations will take place at various times throughout the weekend and are sure to provide a sensational atmosphere at the circuit in the Eifel. They represent a unique opportunity for fans to see legendary cars and some of the key figures from the series live in action once again – with the original sound, historic liveries and plenty of emotional moments.
