- Racing team presents roster with DTM experience
- HRT starts with two Ford Mustang GT3
- Livery pays homage to Ford's last outing in the DTM
Munich. The HRT Ford Performance racing team has turned to an international driver line-up at the wheel of two Ford Mustang GT3 for its works-assisted DTM project. Arjun Maini from India and Switzerland's Fabio Scherer will drive the two American cars. Together, they can call upon experience gained over the course of 82 DTM races. HRT will provide Ford power in the DTM for the first time since 1994 when it lines up at the season-opener at Motorsport Arena Oschersleben (25th to 27th April).
"It is a new challenge for me, and a new challenge for the team," says Maini, who has been racing for the team from Drees, near the Nürburgring, since 2022 and this season starts as a Ford works driver. "We have worked very well together for the past few years. Hopefully we can have some strong races and enjoy success together." When Maini made his debut in 2021, he became the first Indian driver in the DTM. Last year, he made three appearances on the podium. The 27-year-old will contest his fifth DTM season in the colours of DTM partner Ravenol.
Another man with DTM experience is Maini's team-mate Scherer, who started 18 races in 2020. The 25-year-old also has a Le Mans victory to his name: two years ago, he won the LMP2 class at the iconic endurance race in France. This season, Scherer is gunning for success in the DTM. "I am thrilled to be back in the DTM after five years - and as part of Ford's comeback. It is unbelievable to be starting for cult brands like Ford and HRT," says the new Ford Performance GT3 Junior Driver. The black design of his car, with striking red stripes, pays homage to the last time a Ford Mustang appeared in the DTM (1994).
"In the past, we have shown on multiple occasions that we can be successful in the DTM," stresses Ulrich Fritz, Managing Director of Haupt Racing Team. "We will definitely need some patience with the new car. The focus is on developing the Ford Mustang GT3. However, looking at our two fast drivers and experienced team members, I am confident that we can achieve good results as the season progresses." HRT has so far won six races in the DTM. The team's greatest success came in 2021, when Maximilian Götz (Uffenheim) won the DTM title with the team in its debut season.
