- Schubert Motorsport starts with two new BMW M4 GT3 Evo
- Oschersleben-based outfit out to defend Team title
Munich. Schubert Motorsport and BMW are gunning for the DTM title with a strong contingent. The racing team from Oschersleben will run two brand-new BMW M4 GT3 Evo and can call upon the services of two champions: three-time winner René Rast (Bregenz) will be at the wheel of a blue and black BMW. Fürth's Marco Wittmann, champion in 2014 and 2016, starts in the famous green livery of DTM innovation partner Schaeffler. Schubert Motorsport has been racing in the DTM since 2022, since when it has won the Drivers' Championship once, as well as two Team titles. The opening round of the season at Motorsport Arena Oschersleben (25th to 27th April) will be a home outing for the team, which is based close to the circuit.
With 28 race wins to his name, Rast is one of the most successful drivers in the history of the DTM - only Klaus Ludwig (37 wins) and DTM legend Bernd Schneider (43 wins) have celebrated on the top step of the podium more often. Rast ended last season in fifth place in the table, and the 38-year-old is hungry to get back to the very top again this year. "My goal for the DTM is clear: to win my fourth Driver title," Rast emphasises. "It goes without saying that we also want to come out on top again in the Team competition, but the Drivers' Championship is ultimately the most significant - obviously for me personally, but also for the team."
Wittmann also has grand plans for his 13th DTM season: "I am really looking forward to lining up in the DTM with Schaeffler and the 'Green Machine' in 2025. I want to challenge for podiums and race wins. If we do that regularly, we can also have a say in the title race," says the 35-year-old, who can look forward to a home race when the DTM visits the Norisring (4th to 6th July) on the streets of Nuremberg. Wittmann has won 19 races so far in the DTM, the most recent of those wins coming last year in Zandvoort (Netherlands), when he charged through the field from 14th place to take an impressive victory.
Torsten Schubert is also confident ahead of the new season. "After 2022, we want to bring the Driver title back to Oschersleben, and at the same time successfully defend the Team title we won last year," says the team principal of Schubert Motorsport. "We have already gained experience with the new BMW M4 GT3 Evo, but there are still a few unknowns, particularly when it comes to the new tyres. We are confident that we have a strong package, and it is all the more important for us to be up at the front in every race and score valuable points towards the Team competition."
This year, Schubert Motorsport will be running BMW's new GT3 car, the BMW M4 GT3 Evo. Smaller aerodynamic mirrors, larger air outlets on the front wheel houses and a modified setting range for the rear wing achieve even greater aerodynamic efficiency. New anti-roll bars on the front and rear axles, bigger brake disks at the rear, and a differential that can be adjusted more finely also promise to improve the car's handling.
