- ADAC and Schwarz Mobility Solutions receive "FIA Presidents Award for Climate Action"
- Thanks to the "ADAC Pendlernetz - powered by twogo", DTM fans can travel to the race track together and save CO2
Munich. The “ADAC Pendlernetz – powered by twogo” app developed by the ADAC and Schwarz Mobility Solutions has been providing commuters, students and travellers with car sharing opportunities since August. However, motorsport fans can also use the app and have a direct positive effect on CO2 emissions by travelling to events together. Spectator mobility holds the key to reducing environmental impact. This service has now been recognised by the FIA with the “Presidents Award for Climate Action”. “We are delighted to have been recognised by the FIA. With the app and the new opportunity to visit sporting events together, we are offering a sustainable solution to reducing transport emissions,” said ADAC Sport President, Dr. Gerd Ennser, who received the prize.
As it is often difficult to get to motorsport events by public transport, fans often decide to travel in their own car. For this reason, the ADAC and twogo feel that car sharing represents an effective means of reducing the number of cars and CO2 emissions. At the same time, the service maintains the level of flexibility. A study carried out by “aquatil” found that fans in Germany travel an average 188 km to motorsport events, often with just two people in a car. The free Pendlernetz app increases the number of people per car, contributing to a reduction in the number of cars on the road. According to figures provided by the ifeu Institute, one car fewer travelling to a motorsport event saves 15 kilograms of CO2 per 100 kilometres. That is a CO2 reduction of 28 kilograms on an average journey length of 188 kilometres.
Through the prize, the FIA recognises innovative and effective projects which promote Road Safety, Climate Action or Equality, Diversity and Inclusion. “We can be proud of our entries for the second edition of the awards. There are great examples of improvements in the areas of sustainability, EDI and road safety. Today, we are celebrating the winners, who are all shining examples of how the FIA is a force for good in society”, said the President of the International Automobile Federation, FIA, Mohammed Ben Sulayem.
The “ADAC Pendlernetz - powered by twogo” is free and easy to use. After entering the start point and destination, together with the desired time, the app displays appropriate rides from the respective area. In the future, an Event button will make it easier for drivers and passengers to hook up and travel together to major events. An in-app chat function also simplifies communication between the ride provider and passengers.
The next opportunity for DTM fans to use the Pendlernetz app is to travel to the Motorsport Arena Oschersleben. The new season will kick off there from 26th to 28th April 2024. A total of eight events in Germany, the Netherlands and Austria make up the calendar of the popular racing series next year. Tickets are available online at
dtm.com from just 39 euros. The ADAC Pendlernetz app is available free of charge for Android on Google Play and for iOS in the App Store.
