- Cupra provides the safety car, lead car and official cars for the 2023 DTM
- Cupra cars set to be real eye-catchers
Munich. The DTM can count on Cupra again in 2023. When the season gets underway on 26th to 28th May at Motorsport Arena Oschersleben, near Magdeburg, the Spanish automobile manufacturer will lead the way as Official Car Partner. The Cupra safety car, featuring a new design, had its first outing of the year at the test and media days, which took place at the Red Bull Ring in Austria in mid-April. In total, Cupra is providing six official cars. As well as the safety car, this includes the lead car, which will guide the 28 DTM cars to their position on the grid.
“With Cupra, we are again sending out an unmissable signal in the coming DTM season. The Challenger brand will again be in the DTM limelight in its second season, thanks to the striking official cars. Motorsport is in the DNA of Cupra, so our involvement in the DTM is a very good fit for the brand,” says Bernhard Bauer, Managing Director of SEAT Deutschland GmbH. The official cars are set to be real eye-catchers at the eight circuits in Germany, the Netherlands and Austria. The safety car, with its unmistakable blue and purple design and yellow accents, has already seen action this year, having taken to the track in front of the imposing super sports cars of the DTM at the current Formula 1 racetrack in Styria.
“The Cupra brand is all about sporting and aspirational driving, which means it fits perfectly into the DTM portfolio. We are pleased to have Cupra as a partner in the DTM,” says ADAC Motorsport Director Thomas Voss.
Cupra will run the Formentor VZ5 as the lead car and safety car in the DTM. Thanks to an upgrade by Abt Sportsline, the Cupra will lead the field with 450 hp and, if required to, can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.9 seconds. As well as in the DTM, Cupra official cars are also used for the support series at DTM events, including ADAC GT4 Germany, the ADAC GT Masters and the Prototype Cup Germany.
