- Grasser Racing Team enters its tenth season together with Lamborghini Squadra Corse
- Driver for the second seat to be confirmed shortly
Munich. Grasser Racing Team is entering its tenth season together with Lamborghini Squadra Corse, and is looking to continuity in its pursuit of success: as he did in the team’s rookie season in 2022, Clemens Schmid will again drive for the Austrian outfit in this year’s DTM. The 32-year-old will be at the wheel of a new Lamborghini Huracán GT3 Evo2. A second GT3 car from the Italian sports car manufacturer completes the Grasser Racing Team contingent. The driver for the second cockpit will be announced shortly.
“I am pleased to be racing for GRT in the DTM again this season. We made very good progress last year and have worked hard over the winter to transfer the knowledge we gained to the new car. With the Lamborghini Huracán GT3 Evo2 we have a strong package and I am confident we will carry on where we left off in 2022,” says Schmid, who was born in the Austrian Tyrol. Last year, in his rookie season, Schmid scored his first points in the DTM with a sixth place in Imola (Italy). He also qualified second fastest at the season finale in Hockenheim and was on course for a podium finish for much of the race, before narrowly missing out on the top three due to a puncture. This year, the GT3 driver is hungry to challenge at the front of the field again.
“Our goal was always to start in the DTM again this year. We are very proud and grateful to be entering our tenth season together with a fantastic partner like Lamborghini Squadra Corse. When we were planning for 2023, we always wanted to have Clemens in one of our cars again. Since we started working together in 2020, we have built a fantastic relationship, which makes for stability and trust within the team,” says Gottfried Grasser, team principal of GRT. “With ADAC as the organiser, there are going to be a few changes. We are looking forward to them and are confident that our experience in the ADAC GT Masters will prove useful in this regard.”
When Grasser Racing Team entered the DTM last year, it marked the start of a new chapter – and one that was immediately a success. The record at the end of the team’s rookie season read five podiums and one pole position. Furthermore, the team was also in the thick of the title race with Lamborghini works driver Mirko Bortolotti (33/I) right down to the season finale. This year, GRT will line up at eight race weekends in the DTM. The season gets underway from 26th to 28th May at Motorsport Arena Oschersleben. The team from the Styria region of Austria has a home event at the end of September: the Red Bull Ring hosts the DTM from 22nd to 24th September.
