23.01.2024 - Prototype Cup Germany

Registration for the 2024 Prototype Cup Germany open now

  • Season comprises six race weekends at attractive racetracks.
  • Tried-and-tested concept, with two races per event.
  • New handicap time at pit stop adds to excitement.

Munich. The Prototype Cup Germany enters its third season in 2024. Teams wishing to take part in the series, which is organised by the ADAC and Creventic, can register online now at adac.de/motorsport. The deadline for entries is 31st March 2024. Starting places will be assigned upon receipt of the entry fee. Race cars that comply with the LMP3 regulations of 24h Le Mans organiser ACO are eligible to start in the Prototype Cup Germany. All Prototype Cup Germany races will be streamed live and free of charge.

The calendar for the 2024 Prototype Cup Germany is packed with highlights. The season starts with a bang from 19th to 21st April, when the series lines up at the legendary ‘Ardennes Rollercoaster’ at Spa-Francorchamps in Belgium. The second foreign outing of the season, at the spectacular Circuit Zandvoort on the North Sea coast of the Netherlands, is also popular among the teams and drivers – especially as it takes place at peak holiday time in the middle of July. Another former Formula 1 circuit, the Hockenheimring, welcomes the Prototype Cup Germany in August. The races at the DEKRA Lausitzring in May, the Nürburgring in August and the finale at the Sachsenring in September will feature on the popular and high-profile DTM platform.

Little has changed in the sporting format. The concept of two races per race weekend, each lasting roughly an hour, has proven to be a successful one. Two drivers share one car, although individual starters are also permitted. The cars must still make a mandatory pit stop in the middle of the race, although the timings of this stop have been changed slightly compared to previous years. If a Bronze driver is racing alongside a Silver or Gold driver, the duration, for which the car must remain in the pit lane, is extended by ten seconds. Two silver drivers must remain stationary for a further 20 seconds. No time is added for a combination of two Bronze drivers or an individual Bronze driver. If a Silver driver is racing on their own, they must wait an extra 25 seconds.

New in 2024 is a success-related handicap time during the pit stop, which will add to the excitement and make races even more appealing. The winners of a race must spend seven seconds longer in the pit lane in the following race. The second-placed pairing must wait an additional four seconds, and the third-placed drivers two seconds longer than the rest of the field. There is no additional handicap time for those finishing outside the top three. The system of the success-related handicap time only ever applies to the respective next race.
