11.10.2023 - Prototype Cup Germany

Three titles still up for grabs at the finale of the Prototype Cup Germany at the Nürburgring

  • Exciting battle for second place in the Driver’ Championship
  • Title race still open in the Team, Junior and Trophy competitions
  • Both races available in livestream

Munich. This weekend, season two of the Prototype Cup Germany, which is organised by the ADAC and Creventic, draws to a close at the Nürburgring. With the title still up for grabs in the Team, Junior and Trophy competitions, there promises to be plenty of excitement. The Driver’s Championship, on the other hand, is a done deal. Gary Hauser (31/LUX) and Markus Pommer (32/Untereisesheim, both Racing Experience) wrapped up the title last time out in Assen. The Prototype Cup Germany again features as part of the ADAC Racing Weekend at the Nürburgring. As usual, the action will be streamed live and free of charge at adac.de/motorsport and on the ADAC motorsport channel youtube.com/adacmotorsports.

Second-placed Oscar Tunjo (27/COL) and Julien Apothéloz (22/CHE, both Van Ommen Racing by DataLab) travel to the Eifel Mountains with the best prospects of ending the season in the runner-up spot. The Duqueine 08 drivers have amassed 135 points so far this season. “The big goal for the Nürburgring is obviously to finish runner-up in the championship. We will do our best to achieve that – ideally by winning both races,” says Apothéloz, making his intentions clear. “I really like the Nürburgring. It is a circuit with a great tradition. We had a test there with the LMP3 car in the spring, but on the Sprint layout. This weekend we will be racing on the GP circuit. I am particularly looking forward to the fast passages and the Schumacher S.”

In third place on 121 points are Valentino Catalano (17/Westheim) and Robin Rogalski (23/POL, both DKR Engineering) in another Duqueine. “We have prepared meticulously for the Nürburgring in the simulator and have also studied a lot of data. I think the second sector will really be great fun,” says Catalano, who has never driven an LMP3 car at the Nürburgring. “We obviously want to go on the offensive, in order to take second place in the Drivers’ Championship. For me personally, a fifth pole position this season is another goal for the weekend.”

With 106 points to their name, fellow Duqueine drivers Gustavo Kyrila (29/BRA) and Nico Göhler (20/Grasleben, both BWT Mücke Motorsport) could also snatch second place in the Eifel. Ligier JS P320 driver Jan Marschalkowski (20/Inning am Ammersee, MRS GT-Racing) faces a more difficult task. The ADAC Stiftung Sport driver has 93 points coming into the final event.

The season finale will witness a fascinating battle in the Team competition. Racing Experience from Luxembourg tops the table with 191 points, just ahead of Van Ommen Racing by DataLab on 180. Max van der Snel (20/NLD, More Motorsport by Reiter) travels to the Nürburgring leading the Junior competition. His father and Ligier team-mate Mark van der Snel (52/NLD) is sitting pretty at the top of the Trophy standings.

The Prototype Cup Germany field features two guest starters at the Nürburgring. As in 2022, Klaus Abbelen (63/Barweiler) and Felipe Fernández Laser (34/Leipzig, both Frikadelli Racing) line up in a Ligier. Bretton Racing from the Czech Republic will run the same model with Dan Skočdopole at the wheel.
