- Isaac Price and Bence Bánki take victory at the virtual Lausitzring
- Smart strategy puts Löhner on the podium in both races
- Cihan wins again in the GT4 race
Munich. Moritz Löhner took an important step towards defending his title in the ADAC GT Masters eSport Championship powered by EnBW mobility+ at the Lausitzring. The Dörr Esports driver finished runner-up to score valuable points in both races, while his closest rivals, Williams eSports team-mates Jack Keithley and Jakub Brzezinski, struggled. Löhner now takes an 87-point lead into the next round at the Sachsenring.
Dörr Esports driver Florian Hasse had qualified on pole position ahead of his team-mate Löhner. However, they both lost out to Isaac Price at the start, as the privateer passed them on the outside to take the lead. Price went on to win the opening race, with Löhner and Hasse joining him in the top three. “At the start, we were a little bit down on power and the straight was too long to fend Isaac off,” said Hasse. “I am really happy with my season and believe I can still get second place overall.”
The man currently in second place is Keithley, who was hoping to put Löhner under pressure. However, he found himself in trouble at the start. Having climbed from eighth to fourth place in the first few corners, he was then involved in a collision that saw him drop to the back of the field. Brzezinski came home seventh to score a few points.
Clever strategy puts Löhner on the podium in both races
For Löhner, second place in race one meant ninth place on the grid for the main race. He was initially able to gain a number of positions in the early stages. However, as there are very few overtaking opportunities at the Lausitzring, Löhner opted to come into the pits as early as possible. While the opposition were battling for position at the front of the field, the Dörr Esports driver took advantage of the clear track and went on to take a fine second place. “I am amazed how well it went,” said a delighted Löhner. “I opted for the right strategy in the main race. I also set consistently fast lap times today.” Victory went to his team-mate Bence Bánki. “That was a stressful race day,” said the Dörr Esports driver. “Fortunately, I started race two from pole. I gave it my absolute all, particularly in the second stint after the pit stops. However, I avoided making any mistakes and am incredibly happy.”
Löhner’s fiercest rivals in the title race were out of luck again in the main race. Keithley managed to battle his way to ninth place. Brzezinski was handed a slow-down penalty for a false start and eventually crossed the finish line in eighth place.
As such, Löhner was the big winner from the races at the Lausitzring: he now leads the ADAC GT Masters eSport Championship with 322 points. Second-placed Brzezinski already trails by 87 points. Löhner’s team-mate Hasse is third with 225 points, while Keithley has dropped to fourth place with 216 points to his name. Löhner also won the “Fastest Lap Award” and continues to lead the “Pirelli Pole Position Award” courtesy of two pole positions so far this season.
Cihan wins again in GT4
Emre Cihan (Team Fordzilla) was once again unbeatable in the ADAC GT4 eSport Championship at the Lausitzring. Starting from pole position, Cihan produced a commanding performance to claim his fifth victory in a row and qualify automatically for the race at the Sachsenring. He was followed home in second and third place by Adam Pinczes (Arnage Competition) and Alessandro Ottaviani (Virtualdrivers By TX3). Julian Kunze (EURONICS Gaming) and Sinan Gunay (Absolute Motorsport Racing Team) completed the top five.
The ADAC GT Masters eSport Championship powered by EnBWmobility+ continues at the end of the month, when the Sachsenring hosts the next round on 29th September 2021.
