ADAC GT Masters aiming for continuity in 2014 as regards rule book

  • Gentlemen drivers gain extra practice time
  • Handicap weights for drivers reduced
  • Red Bull Ring and Lausitzring swap dates
  • Special concessions for early entry in 2014 end on 15/11/2013
  • Prize money in 2014 will once again total €150,000

  • The ADAC GT Masters is aiming for continuity in the 2014 season, as only minor changes to the sporting regulations are envisaged for the coming season that opens from April 25th to 27th at the etropolis Motorsport Arena, Oschersleben. However, the status of the Gentlemen class will be significantly increased. In addition, handicap weights for drivers are to be reduced slightly.

Drivers competing in the Gentlemen class next year can look forward to an additional 30-minute training session all of their own. According to the programme that has been mapped out so far, Gentlemen practice is scheduled to follow on from FP1 and will be the exclusive preserve of bronze category amateurs. Moreover, the ADAC intends to modify the scoring system in the Gentlemen rating to help amateurs move up the standings, so that two amateur drivers sharing a vehicle will get double points in class next year. Where a Gentlemen driver is paired with a semi-professional (silver category), his points total will be multiplied by a factor of 1.5, but Gentlemen drivers teaming up with a pro driver will get the normal amount of points. In future, only bronze category drivers will be eligible for points in the Gentlemen standings. Prize money totalling €150,000 is to be awarded once again next year in the Gentlemen and team championships.

Handicap weights for drivers will be reduced in 2014. In the interests of sporting fairness and competition, professional drivers and amateur drivers will be assigned different handicap weights in the ADAC GT Masters. The weight handicap for two professional co-drivers will in future be set at 30kg and not 40kg as previously. Handicap weights for other driver pairings will be adjusted accordingly.

Hermann Tomczyk, ADAC Sports President: “The attraction of the ADAC GT Masters lies both in the large number of different makes of supercar taking part and in the diversity of the field of drivers in the ADAC GT Masters, which is made up of a mix of ex-Formula 1 and ex-DTM drivers, plus amateurs. Our aim in introducing the proposed changes for Gentlemen drivers is to make the series more attractive.”

There is one change to note as regards the two ADAC GT Masters events calendared for 2014 at the Red Bull Ring in Austria and at the Lausitzring: the venues have swapped dates and the foreign leg at Austria’s Red Bull Ring will now take place from June 6th to 8th and the Lausitzring races will be staged May 23th-25th.

Registration for the ADAC GT Masters 2014 season has been open since the beginning of October. Intending competitors who register for the 2014 season of the Super Sports Cars League by November 15th 2013 can benefit both from attractive concessions and a reduced entry fee. All 16 races of the ADAC GT Masters 2014 are again to be broadcast live and in their entirety throughout Germany, Austria and Switzerland on kabel eins TV.
