Paddock radar from the ADAC GT Masters in Zandvoort

  • Jos Verstappen visits the German GT Championship
  • Home journey takes priority over football fever

“Jos the Boss”
Former Formula 1 driver Jos Verstappen (49/NL), father of Max Verstappen, who is currently leading the way in the pinnacle of motorsport, could not miss the opportunity to experience the ADAC GT Masters show at his home circuit. The 49-year-old Dutchman watched both races in the German GT Championship and also checked out the grid.

Laps for a good cause
The BWT Race Lap Award continued in Zandvoort. This sees the ADAC GT Masters and BWT donate four Euros for every race lap in the German GT Championship to b.waterMISSION. The charity builds wells, primarily in Gambia and Tanzania, providing access to clean drinking water. So far, more than € 15,000 has been donated.

Home journey, instead of football
It goes without saying that the Euro 2020 final between Italy and England is a major topic of conversation in the ADAC GT Masters paddock. However, it will be difficult for the drivers from these two countries to follow the match: “Raffaele Marciello and I will be sat together in the same plane when the match kicks off, so we will probably miss the game,” says Lamborghini works driver Marco Mapelli (33/ITA, GRT Grasser Racing Team). English BMW works driver Nick Yelloly is hoping to at least catch some of the second half: “I am travelling home today too. But if it all works out, I will be able to watch the final 20 or 30 minutes.”

Little racing drivers
Jannes Fittje (21/Langenhain, Küs Team Bernhard) and ADAC GT Masters partner FaberExposize put a smile on children’s faces with a special campaign ahead of the Zandvoort weekend. They presented each of the Kindergartens in Heiligenstadt with four pedal cars in the style of Fittje’s race car. The kids can also enter a painting competition and win a trip to a German GT Championship race for themselves and their family.

Episode two of ADAC GT Masters Backstage live from the eBay Motors garage
Episode two of the new online show “ADAC GT Masters Backstage live from the eBay Motors garage” was broadcast at lunchtime on Sunday. In the latest episode, present Patrick Simon introduces ADAC GT Masters Safety Car driver Ronald Dobmeier and his workplace, the Audi R8 V10 Plus. He also takes a look behind the scenes in the German GT Championship. The full show is available at https://youtu.be/VTkifd8-XU4.

Holiday atmosphere
The race in Zandvoort is traditionally one of the most popular on the ADAC GT Masters calendar – and not just because of the challenging racetrack, which has been made all the more spectacular by the addition of new banked corners. The location on the North Sea coast also ensures there is a unique holiday atmosphere. As such, the paddock was understandably pleased to return to the Netherlands after the break last year as a result of the coronavirus. Many drivers and team members took advantage of round three of this season’s German GT Championship to take a short holiday by the sea with friends and family. For the second race weekend in a row, spectators were able to follow the races from the grandstands again in the Netherlands.
