05.06.2016 - ADAC GT Masters

Paddock radar from the ADAC GT Masters at the Lausitzring

  • ADAC GT Masters and DTM drivers battle it out in the RaceRoom
  • 24-hr race winner Bernd Schneider assists in commentating second race
  • New ADAC Youngtimer Tour to get under way in October in Berlin and surrounding area

ADAC GT Masters versus DTM: ADAC GT Masters and DTM drivers played a 'friendly' against each other on the computer. On Friday evening at the Motorsport Festival Lausitzring, drivers from both series went head-to-head against each other in the RaceRoom racing game simulation, each of them taking part in an ADAC GT Masters and a DTM race. Daniel Keilwitz, Kelvin van der Linde and Marvin Dienst were at the controls for the ADAC GT Masters contingent, while the DTM was represented by Bruno Spengler, Daniel Juncadella and Edoardo Mortara. Spengler took the win in the DTM race from Juncadella and Keilwitz. In the ADAC GT Masters race, van der Linde beat Keilwitz and Spengler. Former DTM champion Spengler couldn't get enough of the game: "That was great fun. We should do this more often."

Co-commentating: Bernd Schneider, freshly crowned two-time winner of the ADAC Zurich 24-hr race at the Nürburgring last weekend, will give SPORT1 the benefit of his extensive motor racing expertise on Sunday. The DTM record champion will commentate the second ADAC GT Masters race along with Patrick Simon. The car in which Schneider and his team-mates won the 24-hr race, a Mercedes-AMG GT3, is on display in the paddock at the Motorsport Festival Lausitzring. Schneider was not the only winner of the 24-hour marathon to visit the Motorsport Festival Lausitzring. Former ADAC GT Masters driver and FIA GT world championship winner, Maro Engel, also stopped by.

ADAC Youngtimer Tour: All set for the 2016 ADAC Youngtimer Tour. The first ADAC Youngtimer tour will be staged in Berlin and surrounding area from 7th to 9th October. Participants in the event will 'cruise' around Berlin and environs in their amazing classic cars (which have to be at least 20 years old), taking in two stages during the day and one night stage. ADAC Classic launched the new event at the Motorsport Festival Lausitzring. A Volkswagen Scirocco II 16V GTX displayed in the paddock drew lots of admiring glances. Brilliant guys: Four really great guys paid a visit to the third race weekend of the ADAC GT Masters. Former world-class boxer Axel Schulz looked around the paddock and will also play a part later in the ADAC Formula 4 awards ceremony. Nico Walther has got a real taste for the ADAC GT Masters. This is the bobsled world championship winner's second time at the track after previously coming to the Sachsenring fixture. Triple bob world champion Francesco Friedrich and bob coach Gerd Leopold were paying their first visit to the Super Sports Car League.

New position indicator: Fans at the track can now follow the ADAC GT Masters races more closely. Every super car has a highly visible, illuminated digital display mounted in the windscreen, on which the vehicle's current position is permanently indicated.

Busy paddock: Five series, twelve races, 111 racing cars, 25 motorcycles and 170 drivers/riders in all go to make up the Motorsport Festival Lausitzring. Every last square metre of the spacious Lausitzring paddock was spoken for at this highlight event. The valuable, super-quick cargo was transported by a total of 175 articulated lorries which were parked in the paddock over the weekend. There were also another 20 trucks used by teams and manufacturers to transport additional equipment to the Lausitzring.

Out and about: Nissan team MRS GT-Racing were visited by a number of sporting celebrities from surrounding towns, including Kay-Sven Hähner, coach of HC Leipzig women's handball team and Stefan Kutschke, football player with Dynamo Dresden, who have just moved up to the second division. "Steve Feige, who drives for MRS, is a good friend of mine. I've always been interested in motorsport, and even more so, since getting to know Steve. This is my first time at the ADAC GT Masters. It's a nice change from football, but things are about to get really hectic for us again in mid-June with a fitness training camp," said the Dynamo striker. Kay-Sven Hähner told us about his visit: "This is my first time at the Lausitzring. The atmosphere is really great. You don't normally have much time to watch other professionals at work when you yourself are involved professionally in sport like me, but our season has just finished, so this is the perfect opportunity."

Asch celebrates: Well, it's finally caught up with Sebastian Asch, the big 30. The ADAC GT Masters record championship winner celebrated his 30th birthday yesterday. "I'm not yet aware that I feel any different, despite my advancing years!" said Asch, "I hope I can still cut the mustard, now I'm 30. My dad always used to say: People from our area, the south-west, don't get any older, they just get faster. I've already noticed on the race track, though, that ADAC GT Masters colleagues are certainly not making any allowances for me!"
