Newcomers in a BMW: Senkyr Motorsport to contest ADAC GT Masters
- Czech outfit to enter a BMW Z4 in the ADAC GT Masters
- Team has many years of experience with BMW racing cars
- Czech Champion Jakub Knoll named as lead driver
Munich: The ADAC GT Masters continues to attract new interest and talent as Senkyr Motorsport from the Czech Republic throw their hat in the ring with yet another BMW Z4. Robert Senkyr has assembled an experienced team around him in the city of Brno, the undisputed home of Czech motor racing. Senkyr Motorsport have had plenty of success on the Czech racing scene in recent years.
The BMW Z4 that Senkyr Motorsport will be entering for the Super Sports Car League already has a winner’s pedigree – they bought it from DB Motorsport who have now pulled out of the series and who claimed one race victory with the car back in 2012. One of the two drivers for the Z4 has already been decided: Czech national Jakub Knoll (24), who finished as champion in last year’s FIA Central European Zone (CEZ) driving a Mercedes-Benz, will be leading the charge.
Team principal Senkyr was still racing himself last season at the wheel of a BMW ALPINA B6, but for the 2015 ADAC GT Masters campaign, he will be swapping the cockpit for the pit perch. “I would love to be one of the drivers myself, but for the ADAC GT Masters, we are putting a new crew together. This requires my full attention, because we will continue to compete in Czech-based series.”
Senkyr Motorsport’s experience extends back several decades. Robert Senkyr’s father had a successful career at the beginning of the 1980s in the European Touring Car Championship, and during the 1990s in the DTM. The team manager himself has been in the sport for 20 years now: “We are a small but highly experienced and motivated team.”
Preparations are well underway for the debut season of the BMW team in the ADAC GT Masters. “The ADAC GT Masters is a highly competitive series and a challenge for any team,” adds Senkyr. “We want to be optimally prepared for the first race at Oschersleben. We certainly don’t expect to finish in the Top Five on our first outing, but we want to have everything in place for the first race so everything runs smoothly.”
