- Jaime Alguersuari to drive ROWE RACING's Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG
- ROWE RACING will in future field two Mercedes gullwings in ADAC GT Masters
- Alguersuari is second ex-Formel 1 driver to race an SLS AMG besides Heinz-Harald Frentzen
Another ex-Formula 1 driver is joining the ranks of the top-class field of drivers in the ADAC GT Masters: Spanish driver Jaime Alguersuari (24), who has 46 grand prix starts to his name, will campaign a Mercedes-Benz SLS prepared by AMG ROWE RACING during the third Super Sports Car League race weekend at the Lausitzring (May 23rd-25th). Alguersuari is to share the Mercedes-Benz with German Nico Bastian (24) and will contest his first race at the Lausitzring since leaving Formula 1. Ex-DTM driver Maro Engel (28, Germany) and Lausitzring local driver Jan Seyffarth (27) will share the second Mercedes-Benz prepared by ROWE RACING. Apart from Alguersuari, former Formula 1 World Championship runner-up Heinz-Harald Frentzen (46, Germany / HTP Motorsport) is also just getting to grips with a Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG in this year's ADAC GT Masters.
After Heinz-Harald Frentzen, Markus Winkelhock (33, Germany) and Tomas Enge (37, CZ / Reiter Engineering), Alguersuari is now the fourth driver in the series to bring Formula 1 experience to a strong ADAC GT Masters field. The Spaniard lined up for Toro Rosso in Formula 1 from 2009 to 2011 and was active as a Formula 1 tyre test driver until last year. Alguersuari is in for a double premiere at the Lausitzring: The 24-year-old will contest his maiden ADAC GT Masters race and line up in a GT race car for the first time at the Brandenburg track.
"It's terrific that we've been able to acquire the services of a top driver like Jaime Alguersuari. It speaks volumes for our team and also for the ADAC GT Masters that Jaime has decided to contest the series with us. Jaime had a test drive in our SLS AMG last week and got along very well from the word go. That, of course, made our decision to field another vehicle easy. Jaime will not only give the team a shot in the arm but will also enhance the series as a whole," said ROWE RACING team manager Hans-Peter Obernaundorf. [Platzhalter-1-Leerzeilen] Alguersuari will line up for all the remaining races in the Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG with Nico Bastien, who is also making his ADAC GT Masters debut. Engel / Seyffarth will continue to share the second ROWE RACING gullwing.
kabel eins will broadcast the two ADAC GT Masters races live on Saturday and Sunday from the Lausitzring (May 24th and 25th), starting at 11:45 am.
