- ADAC GT Masters race debut of newly revised Camaro
Eight cylinders, eight litres, 650bhp: The U.S. Chevrolet Camaro muscle car is back in the ADAC GT Masters. The Camaro will celebrate its comeback as the second half of the League of Sports Cars season gets under way at the Red Bull Ring (9th-11th August). After intensive development work, Sareni United will field a Chevrolet Camaro at the Austrian away fixture of the ADAC GT Masters. Two former ADAC GT Masters champions intend to cause a sensation in Styria in the cult racing car. ADAC GT Masters winners in 2010 Albert von Thurn und Taxis (31, Germany) and Peter Kox (49, Netherlands) will share the drive in the Camaro and line up together again for the first time since their ADAC GT Masters title win.
Since the debut season of the powerful U.S. sports cars in the ADAC GT Masters last year, Hans Reiter of Reiter Engineering, who founded Sareni United especially for this project, has carried out extensive redevelopment work on the Camaro and completed a comprehensive test programme. “We have changed a lot of things on the Camaro. For one thing, we now have larger wheels and beefier brakes,” says Hans Reiter, revealing some of the details of the Camaro’s current state of tune. “We have tremendous braking power, as we are using rear-wheel sized tyres on the front axle and have installed a much larger braking system that made the larger wheels necessary.”
Sareni engineers have also worked their magic on the mighty V8 engine, one of the motors with the biggest displacement in the ADAC GT Masters field. “We have also done a lot to the engine and improved the V8. There’s only one thing we haven’t changed: the Camaro’s unmistakable sound. You can still hear each cylinder fire individually.”
The ADAC GT Masters race at the Red Bull Ring will mark the debut of the heavily uprated Camaro that has also been given some aerodynamic tweaks. Reiter: “We will be highly delighted if we can achieve a top-ten finish in the Camaro at the Red Bull Ring. This appearance at the Red Bull Ring will not be the only outing for the Camaro in this year’s ADAC GT Masters.”
Tickets for all ADAC GT Masters races start at €20 and can be purchased online at www.adac.de, from any ADAC branch office, online at www.eventim.de or from one of the more than 20.000 Eventim outlets throughout Europe.
