Klien commentates: Jacques Schulz, commentator for ADAC GT Masters live streaming at kabel eins, welcomed a new guest commentator to his booth at Spa-Francorchamps on Saturday. Ex-Formula 1 driver Christian Klien sat down with Schulz to work behind the microphone. Austrian driver Klien was in Belgium driving a BMW 320si in the DTC DMSB - ADAC Procar as part of the ADAC GT Masters. Sports car pundit and racer Patrick Simon will be back in place once again at Schulz’ side on Sunday for the second ADAC GT Masters race in Belgium.
Thrills galore: Mechanics from PIXUM Team Schubert went up, up and away on Saturday afternoon on a skydiving trip. Team partner and special events organiser Jochen Schweizer set up the parachute jump at the nearby airport of Spa-Francorchamps for the BMW team mechanics, who were able to take a look at the Spa-Francorchamps circuit from high up in the sky. PIXUM Team Schubert’s four drivers – Max Sandritter, Jörg Müller, Claudia Hürtgen and Dominik Baumann – preferred to seek their thrills on the Ardennes Rollercoaster of Spa-Francorchamps and watched the parachutists from the ground.
Tomczyk re-elected: ADAC Sports President Hermann Tomczyk will continue to head ADAC Motorsports for another four years. Tomczyk was unanimously confirmed in office by the 200 delegates at the ADAC Annual General Meeting in Bielefeld. Tomczyk has exercised the honorary role of President of ADAC Sports since 1997.
Super cars of today and yesterday: Many people in the paddock were thrilled to see the HTGT series featuring super sports cars from the 1960s and 1970s. Automotive gems such as the Ford GT and Porsche 904 lined up in the series for classic cars at the ADAC GT Masters in Belgium.
Blessed with child: Saturday turned out just perfect for Lambda Performance mechanic Jarno Born. After his team’s victory on Saturday evening, the Dutchman drove home to Apeldoorn, where his wife had given birth to daughter Maud at 8pm that day. Born returned in good time to the Lambda Performance garage on Sunday morning.
Fast Leading Car: Apart from taking care of the support and organisation of the ADAC GT Masters, ADAC GT Masters series manager Michael Rebhan has had to take on another onerous task at the race weekend in Spa-Francorchamps. His job: the amateur racer has to drive the Leading Car, a 550bhp Audi R8 V10 plus to lead the field in the Super Sports Car League safely away at the start. Next weekend, Rebhan will not be driving in front of the field, though, but in the midst of many ADAC GT Masters drivers: Rebhan is to line up in the ADAC Zurich 24 hour race at the Nürburgring.
