ADAC GT Masters already on course for 2014 season

  • Eight fixtures featuring 16 races, season-opener in Oschersleben, finale at Hockenheim
  • Live TV broadcasts will continue in 2014
  • Prize money remains at 150,000 euros
  • Regulations largely unchanged in 2014
  • Gentlemen class to be given higher profile in 2014

The ADAC GT Masters is already on course for the 2014 season. The Super Sports Cars League thrilled spectators this year with one of the most exciting seasons in the history of the series, and more drivers than ever had title chances at the traditional finale in Hockenheim. The regulations in the ADAC GT Masters will remain largely unchanged in the coming year. Eight events are again planned for the 2014 season with a total of 16 races in Germany, Austria and in neighbouring countries. kabel eins will continue to broadcast all races live and in their entirety in Germany, Austria and Switzerland.

“We have had a fantastic season in the ADAC GT Masters and are working hard to make the series even more attractive for fans and participants,” said ADAC Sports President Hermann Tomczyk. “As from today, we are in a position to give all participants the basic information and framework for the coming year, thus assuring a high degree of planning security ahead of the winter break.”

Lars Soutschka, Head of ADAC Motorsport, stressed two important factors that have contributed to the success of the series: “We will continue to fine-tune the ADAC GT Masters series, making it even more attractive to amateur drivers, who are the backbone of the series. We have already signed an agreement earlier this year with our TV partner, kabel eins, ensuring that all races will continue to be shown live and in full on television in 2014.”

The ADAC GT Masters has made few changes in preparing the calendar for the 2014 season. As is traditional, the season will open in the etropolis Motorsport Arena Oschersleben April 25th-27th and end with the finale at the Hockenheimring September 19th-21st. Races at the Sachsenring, the Nürburgring, the Lausitzring * and the Red Bull Ring in Austria feature on the programme once again. Two additional races to take place in neighbouring countries will complete the schedule. Details regarding dates as well as the venues for the two foreign legs will be published shortly.

Sporting regulations will remain largely unchanged in 2014. Minor adjustments to the weight handicaps for drivers are to be verified and approved. In order to ensure sporting fairness and competition, professional drivers and gentlemen drivers are assigned different levels of weight handicaps in the ADAC GT Masters. These categories will be looked at again before 2014 with the aim of reducing the maximum weight.

The Gentlemen category will be given a higher profile in the coming year. The aim is to introduce a separate, additional training session exclusively for gentlemen drivers. The performance of driver pairings consisting of two gentlemen drivers will be significantly increased by a factor of two when awarding points in the Gentlemen class standings. Total prize money of 150,000 euros will again be awarded in the coming year in the gentlemen and team championships.

In order to keep costs down, the spectacular supercars contesting the ADAC GT Masters in 2014 will remain virtually unchanged technically. The FIA, the sport’s ruling body that also governs regulations in the GT3 class and in the ADAC GT Masters has frozen the technology for the coming season at this year’s level. Consequently, participants are spared costly annual technology updates.
