- Cult reporter Kai Ebel presents the trophies
Race laps for a good cause
Since the 2021 season, the ADAC GT Masters and series partner BWT has donated € 4 for every lap completed in the German GT Championship to b.waterMISSION. The organisation builds wells, primarily in Gambia and Tanzania, in order to provide people with clean drinking water. This year, the proceeds of the BWT Race Lap Award were bumped up to € 50,000. During the championship presentation ceremony after the final race at the Hockenheimring, German GT Champion Raffaele Marciello presented Anna Grubeck, Head of Sport Sponsoring at BWT Holding, with a symbolic cheque. One of the wells will be dedicated to the new champion Marciello.
Finale with cult reporter Kai Ebel
For many years, Kai Ebel has been commentating on Formula 1 races on RTL, achieving cult status – thanks in part to his flamboyant outfits. Even strangers to motorsport knew the whirlwind reporter, who was regularly to be found sporting colourful Hawaii shirts and extravagant glasses in front of the camera at racetracks all over the world. The 58-year-old attended the finale of the German GT Championship at the Hockenheimring as a guest of the “Club of Champions” of series partner herrenausstatter.de and took the opportunity to check out the super sports cars and speak to the drivers. Before the race, they were shown the “Start your engines” sign by Ebel, and it was the cult reporter who presented the trophies after the final race of the season.
Minute’s silence for Red Bull co-owner Dietrich Mateschitz
Before the final race in Hockenheim, the ADAC GT Masters observed a minute’s silence in memory of Red Bull co-founder Dietrich Mateschitz, who passed away at the age of 78. ADAC Sport President Dr. Gerd Ennser: “Motorsport has a lot to thank Dietrich Mateschitz for. We have lost a personality, who was of great service to the sport. He was an outstanding supporter of top-level sport, and was equally committed to developing young drivers.”
Work it!
The ADAC invited its series partners to a joint workshop in Hockenheim on Friday. The level of interest from more than 30 sponsors and partners in the Porsche Experience Center once again showed the strong bond with the German GT Championship. The speakers included ADAC Motorsport Director Thomas Voss, who provided information on the sustainability strategy and initiatives. Kay Langendorff also gave a talk, as the man responsible for the marketing and communications strategy for the series.
BWT celebrates the finale of the German GT Championship with more than 1000 guests
More than 1000 guests of series partner BWT attended the final weekend at the Hockenheimring in Baden-Württemberg. They were well looked after in the BWT Area and experienced motorsport up close and personal for three days in the BWT block. The guests were also able to check out the company’s sustainability concept. With its “Bottle Free Zone” initiative, BWT ensures that spectators, drivers and teams can do without single-use bottles at every event in the ADAC GT Masters, in order to protect the environment.
Prominent Mercedes representatives celebrate the championship and present the “ZEDU-1”
AMG co-founder Hans Werner Aufrecht, now chairman of the board at HWA, HWA board member Martin Marx, and roughly 400 HWA employees visited the Hockenheimring to watch and celebrate as Raffaele Marciello won his first ADAC GT Masters title in a Mercedes-AMG GT3 Evo. The ZEDU-1, the most environmentally-friendly car in the world, was also presented. The electric car is equipped with a special system that collects the fine particles created when braking in an oil bath, rather than releasing them into the environment. In specially designed wheel cases, the tyre debris is sucked into a filter system, meaning only purified air is released. This way, the ZEDU-1 almost completely avoids the emission of particulate matter and microplastics. The ZEDU-1 did some demonstration laps ahead of the ADAC GT Masters races.
Insight into the electric future
The NXT Gen Cup gave an idea of what electric motorsport might look like in the future. The fully-electric one-make cup will line up as part of the electric Scandinavian Touring Car Championship next year, and presented its car, the LRT NXT 1, to the fans in Hockenheim. The electric race car is based on the Mini Cooper SE, with a 30 kWh battery and an output of between 190 and 230 hp. Before the two races in the German GT Championship, the rapid electric Mini showed what it is capable of on the 4.574-kilometre track.
