Winter sport athletes in the Eifel
Former bobsleigh and luge athlete Nico Walther visited the finale of the German GT Championship at the Nürburgring on Saturday as a guest of the “Club of Champions” of ADAC GT Masters partner herrenausstatter.de. The 31-year-old Olympic silver medallist and two-time runner-up in the world championship gave the ADAC GT Masters field the signal to start their engines ahead of the opening race. He then presented the trophies at the podium ceremony.
Visit from HWA AG
Hans Werner Aufrecht, Chairman of the Supervisory Board at HWA AG, also visited the final weekend in the Eifel. The businessman presented the trophies to the best-placed drivers at the podium ceremony on Saturday. Also at the Nürburgring was Martin Marx, Member of the Board at HWA AG. HWA AG assembles the Mercedes-AMG GT3 and GT4 cars that line up in the ADAC GT Masters and ADAC GT4 Germany.
Kart presentation
The United in Dreams inclusion project, initiated by the DMSB in cooperation with x4in e. V., presented itself in the Nürburgring paddock. On display was the e-kart, which will be used in the entry-level slalom discipline and is equipped with the innovative “Space Drive” steering system from Schaeffler Paravan. United in Dreams allows children and young people with and without physical disabilities to compete against each other.
Action for flood victims
In support of the victims of July’s catastrophic flooding, the teams in the ADAC GT Masters made a donation amounting to € 50,000. The teams are also waiving their prize money from the two races at the Nürburgring. ADAC GT Masters title contender Maro Engel (36/Monte Carlo, Mercedes-AMG Team Toksport WRT), one of the initiators of the #WirfuerdieEifel action, presented a cheque to Guido Nisius, the mayor of the Adenauer district, on the starting grid ahead of Sunday’s race.
Friends in very high places
Two-time FIA WEC champion and ADAC GT Masters team principal, Timo Bernhard, visited the Kennedy Space Center in Florida ahead of the season finale. The 40-year-old wanted to watch his friend Matthias Maurer (51) at the launch of his rocket. The ESA astronaut was supposed to fly to the ISS International Space Station for six months, but the launch has been delayed several times so far.
Porsche stand in the paddock
Although the Porsche Carrera Cup Deutschland is not racing at the Nürburgring, the one-make cup was present with a stand in the paddock. Among the exhibits were two of the latest generation of Cup Porsche. To the delight of fans, Porsche provided hungry visitors to the stand with waffles. In 2022, the Porsche Carrera Cup Deutschland will be present at six ADAC GT Masters weekends as a partner series.
