- 200th ADAC GT Masters race
- Olympic champions attend special anniversary weekend
- Dr Helmut Marko comes to watch Austrian race meeting
Major anniversary
The ADAC GT Masters celebrated a very special, major anniversary on Sunday at the Red Bull Ring when the Super Sports Car League held its 200th race. The championship has been thrilling motorsport fans since 2007 and is the world's longest-running GT3 sprint series. ADAC Sports President Hermann Tomczyk held up the Start-your-engines message board as some 18,000-bhp of engine power roared into life for this very special race.
Olympic champions at Red Bull Ring
58-year-old Ingo Appelt, Olympic bobsleigh champion from Albertville 1992, was at the ADAC GT Masters in Spielberg as a guest of herrenausstatter.de Club of Champions. He held up the Start-your-engines message board on Saturday and sent the field of supercars contesting the Super Sports Car League on their way.
ADAC GT Masters partner Montana at special anniversary race
Stefan and Florian Koburger, managing directors of ADAC GT Masters partner Montana, were at the Red Bull Ring as they did not want to miss the 200th ADAC GT Masters race. Montana is a leading player in the energy supply market in both Germany and Austria and has been a Super Sports Car League partner since the start of this season.
Austrian race legend
Former Le Mans winner and ex-Formula 1 driver Dr Helmut Marko was also present as a guest during the ADAC GT Masters anniversary weekend at the Red Bull Ring. Red Bull’s motorsport advisor watched the spectacular GT3 sports cars race and also keenly followed events in the ADAC Formula 4 as Red Bull Junior Team members, Jak Crawford (15, USA) and Jonny Edgar (16, GB), caused a minor sensation. Edgar won the first two races for drivers in the ADAC High-Speed Academy here in Austria while his team-mate also took two podiums.
Commentator is also guest entrant
SPORT1 commentator Patrick Simon (45, GER) swapped the microphone for a steering wheel several times over the weekend and competed as a guest entrant in the ADAC TCR Germany. And with some success! In Q1, he was fastest in the VIP car prepared by Hyundai Team Engstler, finished third on the podium in the first race and was fifth in the second round on Sunday.
Exclusive bonus prize at race meeting in Austrian Alps
The two pole-sitters from the ADAC GT Masters were also delighted to receive their bonus prizes for clinching Pirelli Pole Position Awards at the Red Bull Ring. Steijn Schothorst (26, NL) on Saturday and Tim Zimmermann (24, GER, both GRT Grasser Racing Team) on Sunday were presented with exclusive, limited-edition skis from Pirelli, ideally suited to the surroundings at the Red Bull Ring with its amazing Alpine vistas and snow-capped mountain peaks.
ADAC GT Masters eSports Championship powered by EnBW mobility+
Favourites secure victory in round five of the ADAC GT Masters eSports Championship powered by EnBW mobility+ at the Red Bull Ring. Williams Esports driver Jack Keithley took his second win of the season in the ADAC eSports championship which has a pool of prize money worth 80,000 euros. Last year's champion Moritz Löhner followed the Briton home in second place for Mahle Racing. Euronics Gaming guest starter Marko Pejic caused the biggest upset of the evening with the fastest time in qualifying and third place in the race.
