Team WRT debuts with a strong line-up in the ADAC GT Masters

  • 2019 runner-up Mirko Bortolotti to partner Rolf Ineichen
  • Belgian youngsters Dries Vanthoor and Charles Weerts in second car
  • Team from Belgium fielding two Audi R8 LMS

Munich: With three proven race winners and one upcoming young talent, the Belgian outfit WRT has put together a promising line-up for its debut season in the ADAC GT Masters. The first of the two Audi R8 LMSs will be driven by Mirko Bortolotti (30, ITA) and Rolf Ineichen (42, CH), while the cockpit of the second will be shared by experienced Audi sports driver Dries Vanthoor (22, BEL) and series newcomer Charles Weerts (21, BEL). Team WRT will make their first appearance next weekend in the official preseason tests at the Lausitzring. The 14 races of the 2020 ADAC GT Masters will be broadcast live and in full length by SPORT1. They can also be watched online via the livestream on sport1.de, adac.de/motorsport and youtube.com/adac.

“We are thrilled by the prospect of driving in the ADAC GT Masters this year, as it is a highly competitive race series contested at a high level,” says team boss Vincent Vosse. “We have put together a great line-up, and we are very happy about returning to the tracks and racing again. It won’t be ‘business as usual’ as we’re used to, but it’s good news that everything is ready to go.”

Sharing the number 30 Audi will be the experienced duo of Audi sports driver Mirko Bortolotti and partner Rolf Ineichen. Both have been competing in the Super Sports Car League for several years now and already have several race wins to their credit. “I’m looking forward to being able to drive in the ADAC GT Masters again,” says Bortolotti, runner-up in the 2019 ADAC GT Masters with three victories. “I love driving in the series, and it’s great that I’m sharing a car with Rolf. We’ve known each other for a long time and have already chalked up several victories together in international events, including twice at the 24 Hours of Daytona. At the start of this year, we competed in two 24 hour races with Team WRT. So we’re not starting from scratch, but there’s still a lot to learn.”

The number 32 sister car is to be driven by two Belgian youngsters – Dries Vanthoor and ADAC Formula 4 graduate Charles Weerts. This will be season number three in the ADAC GT Masters for Vanthoor who registered a maiden win in the series at Zandvoort last year. His new team-mate has already had some success in international GT3 races, but the Super Sports Car League is uncharted territory for the 21-year-old.

Team WRT was founded in 2009 and has been one of the top teams in international GT sport for several years. Among the standout results achieved by the Belgian outfit are victories in the 24-hour races at Spa-Francorchamps and at the Nürburgring as well as in Dubai and at Zolder. Other winner’s trophies in the WRT cabinet from national and international competitions include the FIA GT World Cup, the 12 Hours of Bathurst, the 12 Hours of Sepang and the 10 Hours of Suzuka.
