Nico Hülkenberg to compete in the ADAC GT Masters

• Formula 1 star plans guest appearance at the Nürburgring
• His car will be a Lamborghini Huracán GT3 Evo fielded by the mcchip-dkr team
• Hülkenberg: “I’m really keen to get behind the wheel again”

Munich: Formula 1 star Nico Hülkenberg (32) will compete in the ADAC GT Masters. He will make a guest appearance at the Nürburgring on the weekend of 14th - 16th August. The second event of the calendar will see the veteran of 177 Grand Prix races and 2015 ADAC Motorsport Personality of the Year driving a Lamborghini Huracán GT3 Evo fielded by ADAC GT Masters novices mcchip-dkr. All of the ADAC GT Masters races in 2020 will be broadcast live and in full length by SPORT1. They can also be watched online via the livestreams on sport1.de, adac.de/motorsport and youtube.com/adac.

Nico Hülkenberg is looking forward to the guest start: “The ADAC GT Masters is an exciting series with cool cars, and after a break of almost eight months, I’m really keen to get behind the wheel again and feel the adrenalin flow. With the 2020 Formula 1 at last having got underway, my fingers are twitching. To all rumour merchants out there, I’d like to make it quite clear that this guest start is to be interpreted as no more than a minor venture into GT sport. I’m really looking forward to the challenge, but I also know that we’ll have to stretch ourselves quite a bit to be competitive.”

Hülkenberg, who has been a regular in Formula 1 since 2010 and won the Le Mans 24 Hours in 2015, has already completed his first test in a Lamborghini at the Nürburgring. Two more are planned before the race weekend in mid-August. The former ADAC Sports Foundation protégé will share the cockpit of the Italian-made GT3 sports car with Danny Kubasik. The mcchip-dkr managing director will compete under the pseudonym ‘Dieter Schmidtmann’. The Mechernich-based outfit are hoping that the guest appearance in the ADAC GT Masters will provide them with further experience of contesting a professional motorsport series.

‘Dieter Schmidtmann’ is also delighted by the prospect of driving at the Nürburgring: “Because we are used to competing at a lower level of motorsport, the guest appearance in the ADAC GT Masters is a new chapter for us and a good opportunity to develop professionally as a team. Hülkenberg is the 13th driver from the highest echelon of the sport to compete in the ADAC GT Masters. Other big names to have graced the series in the past include Heinz-Harald Frentzen, Karl Wendlinger, Jan Lammers, Mika Salo and Jaime Alguersuari.
