- Former DTM championship runner-up Jörg van Ommen is guest driver at Hockenheim
- Van Ommen celebrates 50th birthday with ADAC GT Masters race
- Will co-drive Mühlner Porsche with ex-Formula 1 test driver Marcel Lasée
Bernhard Mühlner has been true to his word: he announced on the occasion of his team’s ADAC Masters Weekend guest appearance with a Chevrolet Camaro at the Red Bull Ring that they would be back on the grid for the finale of the League of Super Sports Cars in Hockenheim (28th–30th September). However, instead of the U.S. steam hammer, Mühlner Motorsport will once again be campaigning a more familiar vehicle in Hockenheim, a Porsche 911. Former DTM driver Jörg van Ommen (49, Düsseldorf) and ex-Formula 1 test driver Marc Lasée (30, Düsseldorf) will be sharing the Porsche cockpit at the final weekend.
Bernhard Mühlner fills in the background: “We discussed with Jörg van Ommen various ways of putting a Porsche on the grid and we hit on the idea of this guest start at the ADAC Masters Weekend at Hockenheim since it will be his 50th birthday on race Thursday. Competing in the ADAC GT Masters at Hockenheim is, of course, absolutely perfect. After all, what could be better for a race driver than to celebrate his 50th birthday out on the track?”
Moreover, Renate-Carola and Bernhard Mühlner have some good memories of the Hockenheim circuit; in 2010, the two brothers Tim and Jörg Bergmeister secured the 100th race win for the Spa-Francorchamps-based team, Mühlner Motorsport, driving a Porsche.
Hockenheim will mark the first venture into the ADAC GT Masters for both former DTM championship runner-up and veteran Mercedes-Benz works driver van Ommen and ex-Formula 1 test driver Marcel Lasée. Van Ommen, though, is very familiar with the League of Super Sports Cars from the pits; he and his outfit JvO Autosport ran a Porsche 911 during the 2008 season.
